It arguably works much better as '80s nostalgia than it did in the '80s as contemporary surrealism. Go to Full Review

…this Pet Shop Boys film is a Fellini-style phantasmagoria of British seaside life, mixing past, present and abstract surrealism…it’s to Jack Bond’s credit that the result is as idiosyncratic to the deadpan duo as Hard Days Night was to the Fab Four… Go to Full Review

A lot of musical artists and bands have starred in their own motion pictures. This is not the best of those films, but I do think it is the most interesting. Go to Full Review

It Couldn't Happen Here is certainly indulgent and, for many, its self-conscious artfulness and oddity will just be too much. However, for those willing to dive into the surreal for an hour and a half or so, there's plenty here that is genuinely rewarding Go to Full Review

O g Jan 9 The Pet Shop Boys are a guilty pleasure of mine. Sadly this wasn't. It gets a bit better as it goes along but the first half is a creepy Pythonesque misfire. At least the music was good! See more 05/18/2013 The Boys at their surreal and artistic best, the film makes no sense if taken in its entirety but as a collection of short films it is an interesting twist on the pop video art form. A one for the Pet Shop Boys fan rather than the movie art house critic. See more 03/12/2012 You wouldn't find most people who understand the reason for surrealism in this movie, but it's great as an artistic representation of the Pet Shop Boys and some of their token songs. It's bizarre yet fascinating. See more 05/29/2011 An interesting slightly bizarre drama/musical where the British dance pop duo go to various places and meet some interesting characters. Most of the songs are taken from their second album, Actually. Joss Ackland has a small dual appearance as a blind priest and a killer. The scene with the existential puppet in the diner is a highlight. The music video for "Always on my Mind" was taken from this movie. See more 11/10/2010 this movie was brilliant its basically just pop videos bundled together with a lame storyline but if your a fan of the pets and you havent seen this thaen its a must pity its only available on video. See more 05/28/2010 Bands should probably never make films. That includes both the Beatles and the Spice Girls. Here in the strange world of Pet Shop Boys, the acting is not oscar-worthy and the events a little too episodic for even the most eyebrow-raising charcters to develop far. But for all that, this is a better way to spend an evening with flu than watching either the Fab Four or the Spices. There is undoubtedly a flawed genius at work behind this, and much like the Pet Shop Boys' career, there are occasions when less would be better, but they're worth waiting through for those moments of crystal genius. Plus, when you have Neil and Chris uneracting as they do, it lends a certain "does this matter?" to the impressionistic wash of the movie. That, and it's a rather wonderful video for the English Tourist Board and my childhood. See more Read all reviews
