This fact-based film tells the story of Sherri Finkbine (Sissy Spacek), a well-liked television host who causes a public scandal when she decides to get an abortion in 1962. Sherri and her husband, Bob (Aidan Quinn), are happily married and eagerly awaiting the birth of their child when doctors tell the couple that the pain medication Sherri has been prescribed has most likely deformed their unborn baby. As Sherri tries to get an abortion, she faces both legal and personal attacks.
