Leslie Felperin Guardian Collier and Mian have a lot of fun with nightmare fakeouts, casting doubt on what's real and what's a dream; together with the coloured gels used in the cinematography, this gives the whole thing a 1970s giallo vibe. Rated: 3/5 Mar 10, 2021 Full Review Daniel Gorman In Review Online Anyone already vaguely familiar with Lovecraftian lore and Cthulhu mythology will be unimpressed, as will anyone simply looking for a spooky good time. Jun 6, 2021 Full Review Niall Browne Movies in Focus Andy Collier and Tor Mian's Sacrifice is a Scandi-folk horror, which is obviously heavily inspired by Robin Hardy's classic folk horror, The Wicker Man, Ari Aster's recent Midsommar and the works of H.P. Lovecraft (he even gets a credit). Rated: 2.5/5 Mar 21, 2021 Full Review Daniel Goodwin HeyUGuys The palpable eerie atmosphere and doom-laden Lovecraftian overtones promise a lot, but the narrative unspools quickly. There's a good deal here to enjoy, it's a great shame the hold on the story could not have been stronger. Rated: 2/5 Mar 19, 2021 Full Review Molly Henery The Blogging Banshee Sacrifice is a genre-bending film that's dripping with suspense and veiled in mystery. Rated: 6/10 Feb 24, 2021 Full Review Dan Scully Phindie Takes its time getting to the scary stuff, but uses that time to ratchet up the dread in a big way, leading to a surprising finale that chills to the bone. Jelisije J An enjoyable horror film that deals with a couple looking back on their roots in a remote island where ancient cultures once existed. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/06/23 Full Review Lagrange P Solid performances from Stevens. and Hughes in particular, whose relentless descent into the town's affliction and increasing abuse of his partner (Stevens) are both disturbing and emotionally wrenching. I've loved Barbara Crampton since Re-Animator, but her Norwegian accent here is bad enough to be comically offensive in a Muppets/Swedish Chef sort of way. Character development is lacking and the whole thing sort of peters out rather than ending, unless you didn't see the "twist," coming a mile away. It works as a diversion, if not a wholly satisfying experience. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Not sure if this is based on a Lovecraft work or not but it feels like one. More suspense-thriller than horror, a bit slow and doesn't hit the frantic notes of other Lovecraft adaptations and... I simply wanted more from the ending that is a letdown when you notice it's resemblance to other Lovecraft adaptations. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Creepy, atmospheric slow-burn akin to The Wicker Man. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/24/21 Full Review Audience Member Horrible storytelling. Very disjointed! No completion at the end! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Good movie, good adaptation Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Read all reviews
