Audience Member another fifties youtn in revolt pic Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member For a juvenile delinquent film from 1958, this has a LOT more beneath the surface. It's rare to see the effects of bad parenting, especially in those days, but this film kind of gives a glimpse into how a "bad" kid becomes that way, despite their privileged suburban upbringing. In fact, the adults seem worse off in this film, from drunken dads, cheating moms, to middle-aged adults bullying the kids who crash THEIR party at the lodge. No wonder "bad boy" Twig starts the film by crashing parties and starting fights just for the hell of it - he's surrounded by bad examples. "Good girl" Barbara is bored of her predictable goody-goody boyfriend, Josh and is excited by all this. Sure, the ending is a bit predictable, but the film did touch on the taboo topic of incest which was UNHEARD of in 1958 (Twig's mother makes creepy moves on him). Not only that, it shattered the "Father Knows Best" mentality as well. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Very tame wild youth 50's drama is really more of a curiosity piece to see the last film performances of the doomed Frances Farmer and Bobby Driscoll here cast as mother and son. Aside from that it's a wannabe Rebel Without a Cause. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews
