Audience Member Bruce Lee was taken from us far too soon, but his legacy and impact is still felt over 40 years after his untimely demise. The Clones of Bruce Lee shamelessly and somewhat disrespectfully exploits the late martial artists name in order to bring us a movie composed almost entirely of horribly directed and poorly staged fight scenes, the rest of it being the eponymous clones either walking or running from one of these fights to the next. In every single one of these encounters the camera is positioned far too close to the combatants, and as such it's incredibly difficult to tell what is actually happening. The camera work and editing is so bad that sometimes you can't see anybody at all. Every single punch or kick the characters throw results in more or less the same generic sound, regardless of whether the attack made contact or not. The sound even plays when the characters aren't fighting anyone. The fights start off stupid, then become somewhat amusing, then downright hilarious, then back to stupid, and finally to soul-crushing tedium. The whole film is nothing more than a lame excuse to cram together as many martial arts bouts as possible, so it baffles me that they didn't put more effort into making them look good. Unfortunately, being released during the infamous 'Brucesploitation' era, simply slapping Lee's name onto the movie was more than enough. Effort was entirely optional. I'll admit I did get a few decent chuckles out of this film, much in the same way people do when they watch Plan 9 or Troll 2. I especially enjoyed the 2nd villain (the movie has about 3, depending on what you count as 'villains') who is so diabolical that he laughs manically at... well, everything. "Make me a super weapon." HA HA HA. "Have it ready as soon as possible." HA HA HA. "I'm starring in a crappy exploitation flick." HA HA HA. The entire thing looks as cheap as you would imagine. Obviously so much time was spent thinking up all the different ways for a Bruce Lee lookalike to kick a henchman in the face that they forgot to consider the production values, editing, cinematography or the whole thing making any logical sense. It doesn't, at all, and while it might make you giggle at times, you'll want the whole thing to be over before yet another fight scene has a chance to rear its ugly head.
