Jane Sumner Dallas Morning News The Last Shot doesn't crackle and pop, but the send-up of Hollywood and the government gets off some good lines and generally endears itself with a kind of earnest scattershot loopiness. Rated: B- Oct 14, 2004 Full Review Laura Sinagra Village Voice Planned inanity never gets mad mad mad mad enough, and insider jabs like "I'm not a fake, I'm a director!" don't have the desired zaniness. Steve D Has beens with a terrible script. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/28/23 Full Review Audience Member A fun ride. Had never heard of it before but glad I gave it a shot. Similar to Argo or Get Shorty Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/06/20 Full Review Audience Member "Why have you seen so many dead people?" " I use to direct music videos." Great cast, quite funny. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review william s A little bit of everything is mixed into this flavorful stew of a comedy-drama and it's quite tasty indeed. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member another pic about the workings of tinseltown Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Based on a true story, The Last Shot is a fun, satirical comedy that's full of laughs. In an attempt to bring down a mob boss the FBI sets up an elaborate sting operation posing as movie producers, but before long the fake movie they're making starts to take on a life of its own. The writing is pretty good and includes some interesting commentary about Hollywood and the tactics used by the FBI. Matthew Broderick, Alec Baldwin, Tony Shalhoub, and Calista Flockhart lead the cast and deliver some impressive performances. But, the character development is weak and there are some extraneous subplots that don't payoff. Yet, The Last Shot overcomes its script issues and delivers an entertaining film that tells an unusual tale of life and art blurring together.
