Peter Rainer FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) It's a powerful movie... The only problem of the movie (that is not the fault of the film) is that you're hoping for some great resolution and for the most part it doesn't happen. Sep 30, 2019 Full Review Matthew Lickona San Diego Reader Directors Almudena Carracedo and Robert Bahar's documentary...tracks the dogged efforts of those who refuse to let the past stay buried when the suffering it caused is still very much alive. Rated: 3/5 May 31, 2019 Full Review Michael Rechtshaffen Los Angeles Times It may be more than 40 years since the death of Gen. Francisco Franco, but the chilling effects of his brutal regime continue to reverberate as affectingly illustrated in "The Silence of Others." May 23, 2019 Full Review Dennis Harvey 48 Hills [It] powerfully illustrates the value of dogged persistence by victims seeking justice... Oct 21, 2020 Full Review Elizabeth Limón En Filme The Silence of Others portrays the denial of the right to justice and the need for social movements that attempt to reclaim the abuses that the past left behind. Angie G Excellent! It should be show in secondary schools for students to learn the truth of what happened and what is going on in Spain. The human rights injustice. And how international countries governments have turned a blind eye to the situation. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/01/23 Full Review Audience Member For many years I've wondered how Spain managed to bury its past of over 2,000 mass graves, more than 100,000 Spaniards murdered, thousands tortured, thousands of slave laborers worked to the bone in Spain long after the end of the country's civil war. I finally found a moment to watch Almudena Carracedo and Roberto Bahar's doc "The Silence of Others" and now I understand. I cried buckets of tears. What kills me is man's inhumanity to man, Spaniards one against the other, even decades after the end of Franquísmo. This hostility and incivility lives in the US today, it lived in Chile for decades (and may still for all I know), Argentina, Cambodia, the Balkans etc. We know it all too well. It's alive amongst the settlers in Palestine. This film is a great service to historical memory. Our work as artists and writers, as publishers, as citizens, is that we are keepers of the flame, we remind others of what matters, freedom of expression, justice and truth. Forgetting is not possible until justice is served. Watch and discuss this film, and remember, it can happen anywhere. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Poderoso documental . No conocía estas historias. La verdad siempre aflora. Tarde o temprano. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member La brutalidad humana no tiene límite ni fronteras. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
