David W Shot in Romania back to back with the equally terrible fifth in the series, this was both badly conceived and executed. It marked an obvious huge downturn in quality from all concerned. Even Thomerson couldn't save this turkey from roasting. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/04/23 Full Review Audience Member Filmed at the same time as Trancers 5: Sudden Deth in the Full Moon castle — how did they avoid it for so long — this Trancers movie finds Jack Deth without his wife Lena and having lost his other wife Alice to Harris. So now, all alone and angry at everything, he agrees to go into the past again. Due to an attack by a Solonoid, Jack finds himself in a whole new dimension that's a lot like medieval times where the Nobles — proto-Trancers? — sick the life force out of humans — like vampires. This would seem like the perfect time to crossover Subspecies with Trancers, but come on. We don't have the budget for that. To battle the evil Lord Caliban, Jack must travel to the Castle of Unrelenting Terror and perhaps even work with the evil ruler's son Prospero. And because none of his technology works, he might not make it out alive. Written by comic book writer Peter David (the Oblivion films), this movie's budgetary challenges were solved by director David Nutter taking entire pages out of the script. Nutter would go on to much bigger and better things, including directing multiple episodes of Game of Thrones and Disturbing Behavior. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review harry r How can the future be Trancers when we have been told that the future is the Federation? Is the Federation where we are headed or is it the Trancers? Maybe, neither? Maybe, both? Maybe that is the seedier side of Earth that we do not see from the Federation's point of view? Either way, both stories are great. This is the only dystopian future that I can believe. It is well thought out. It follows through from part to part. It is a well thought out series of movies that you can enjoy. Tim Thomerson's acting may take some getting used to, but once you get there you expect no less, and not more. He is perfect the way his is for this part. I wish he did more. The only criticism I can give is that the great team of Helen Hunt and Tim are not in this one. Whatever happened between them, I am sorry it interfered with the movie series. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Weak fourth Trancers films seems more like a cash grab than a real attempt to make a decent film. In this film, Jack Deth lands in the 22nd century where vampires rule a medieval society. Even though it's supposed to be the future, the film mostly takes place around a Romanian castle that was also used in several other Full Moon films. My suspicion is that Full Moon had a deal to film in and around this castle and they wanted to make as many films there as possible, regardless of their quality. The castle does give the film some impressive production value, but the story is just dull and even though Tim Thomerson returns as Jack Deth, he seems more a parody of the character (which was already a bit tongue-in-cheek). More likely though, it's just badly written dialogue that comes off as just ridiculous. The film was directed by X-Files regular director David Nutter, but he sadly can't bring any real suspense or intrigue to tis awful script. This film was made back-to-back with "Trancers 5: Sudden Deth." And according to IMDB, Tim Thomerson is embarrassed by his involvement with this film and part 5. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Another solid outing despite a change in story. Jack Deth is accidentally tranported to a parallel medieval world called Orpheus where Trancers are more like vampires who suck the life out of ordinary people. Lots of understated comedy that works. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member A lot of people harp on this Trancers outing but I particularly enjoyed it. It's Trancers goes Medieval! The story here makes more sense than most Full Moon releases and Jack Deth is back fighting trancers... lots and lots of trancers. With plenty of comedy and action, this Trancers outing should please fans but for some reason it doesn't. Is it the mix of a fantasy setting with the scifi or were fans just wanting more of the same from the previous outings? I'll admit the time travel to a medieval world is a little tired and Jack Deth doesn't seem so badass without his super gun but this film still worked for me and continuing on in the direction the previous films had been down would have probably seemed just as tired. Worth checking out at least once. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
