Audience Member Beautifully shot, unnerving at times, and surreal. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Herzog's emotional narrative feels a little intrusive considering his seemingly level-headed, rational subject, but it's doesn't detract much from the quality of the film. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Showing how a seventeen year old could outdo Bear Grylls anyday of the week. Seriously though, this is a vivid description of what it means to survive and the freak set of circumstances that led to it being made- Herzog himself almost being on the flight and Koepcke being the sole survivor, gives this a unique character that fits Herzog like a glove. It was great to learn more about Koepcke throughout as she seemed reserved at times but she is clearly a strong and powerful person, which explains how she found her way out of the dense jungle that surrounded her. Its got everything that you expect from Herzog and I personally found Koepcke to be quite an interesting character. It was however pretty slim- while it's an absolutely fascinating story, most of it can be told in ten minutes really. Nonetheless, there are some great moments here- it's not often that you get to hear someone talk about what it feels like to fall from the sky. While I'm pleased that this was about Poepcke I couldn't help but want to know more about the scandalous plane company that was responsible for so many deaths- Herzog teased with that but if it had played a bigger part then everything wouldn't have felt as linear as it did. Still, a better, roughly hour-long documentary, than you will generally come across and it means the Herzog standard for sure. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Solid, short doc from Herzog. What I found most interesting was his personally connection to the events he is relating. He could have been on that flight. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member It wouldn't be Herzog if it weren't hypnotic and harrowing. The very last passage of the film is as sublime as anything Werner Herzog. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member survival is a science whose art is in accomplishing it, this film's heart is in the right place by fact searching and making a mockery of melodrama. what an amazing story: a recent high school graduate from a family of botanists finds herself the only survivor in a plance crash deep in the amazon, who despite maggot filled wounds and a serious head injury reaches civilization after an 11 day journey through the rainforest.
