What to Know

Critics Consensus

Dark, nasty, and delightfully subversive, Witching and Bitching is gross-out genre fun with a heaping helping of warped comedy for good measure.

Simon Abrams RogerEbert.com "Witching and Bitching" is accordingly overlong, and conceptually thin. But like most of de la Iglesia's films, it's also freakishly energetic, and often hysterical. Rated: 3/4 Jun 13, 2014 Full Review Ben Kenigsberg New York Times The buddy comedy, gross-out humor and horror elements make for a harmonious mix. Jun 12, 2014 Full Review Ignatiy Vishnevetsky AV Club Plenty of movies sympathize with outcasts, but only De La Iglesia's sympathize with their ugliest feelings: envy, resentment, and self-loathing. Rated: B Jun 12, 2014 Full Review Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh While other witch-themed movie emphasis tone and spookiness, the title showcases how this leans more into insanity, delivering a high-octane horror story unlike its peers. Rated: 4/5 Sep 20, 2023 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy Alex de la Iglesia offers more madness and mayhem with this delirious flick. Rated: 3/4 Oct 29, 2021 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com Despite its noted cast members, Witching and Bitching is too long to sustain its wispy narrative. Audience Member I loved this movie. It's twisted and very funny. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Late R You might have guessed by its great name, but ‘Witching & Bitching' is made for the sole purpose of having a bit of fun. The script is a cheeky little examination of how fundamentally different men and women are from each other, and it's that combined with great visuals, an energetic atmosphere and heap of (dark) comedy that makes this a lot of fun to watch. It clearly doesn't take itself seriously and isn't afraid to push the boundaries a little; it's not interested in a lot of substance, its only goal is to entertain, and entertain it does in a truly ridiculous fashion. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/01/21 Full Review Audience Member Is a horrible movie with a lot of cliches and machismo. It shows how afraid is Alex de la Iglesia of women, their power and their empowerment. If a woman is independent, strong , intelligent and critical, Alex puts her as a witch and as someone who hates men. It paints women as híper emotional, irrational, incapable to think for her own and ready to go against their love ones cause they fell in love in a minute of a stranger (that by the way thread them like crap). A movie that had a great beginning but ends terrible Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Este divertido y controversial film de Alex de la Iglesia ,deja salir magnificas actuaciones de un guion que por momentos cojea pero logra ser funcional cuando su ejecución es terminada, es un film que le hace honor a su filmografia ,logra sacar una actuación magnifica por parte de la iconica Terele Pavez. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member A surreal tale that is also a fascinating, high energy comedy. Although there are definitely plenty of cliché moments, the film is mostly a montage of original, bizarre, and even insightful characters and situations. The surreal scenes are backed up by quality acting and an story that is good enough. Although I thought it dragged a bit towards the end, I was still totally absorbed in the strange things unfolding before me. Horror, comedy, action, and originality are a great mix. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member A hilariously wacky and balls-to-the-wall satire on the battle of the sexes. There's some questionable effects, but nothing enough to bring down this wildly entertaining and unique spanish film. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Read all reviews
