Newcomer Katherine Langford plays the role of Hannah, a young woman who takes her own life. Two weeks after her tragic death, a classmate named Clay finds a mysterious box on his porch. Inside the box are recordings made by Hannah --- on whom Clay had a crush --- in which she explains the 13 reasons why she chose to commit suicide. If Clay decides to listen to the recordings, he will find out if and how he made the list. This intricate and heart-wrenching tale is told through Clay and Hannah's dual narratives.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

By deviating from its source material, 13 Reasons Why can better explore its tenderly crafted characters; unfortunately, in the process, it loses track of what made the show so gripping in the first place.

Wenlei Ma News.com.au As with the first season, 13 Reasons Why is not an easy, breezy Saturday night binge but there's something addictive about it, that is until you remember teen angst has a limited shelf life. Jun 7, 2018 Full Review David Barker New Statesman The second season feels more like dealing with the aftermath of the first season's criticism, while lacking a true narrative of its own. Jun 6, 2018 Full Review Kaitlin Reilly NPR The second season of Netflix's controversial teen drama 13 Reasons Why has fans asking a lot of questions. May 25, 2018 Full Review Alex Flood NME (New Musical Express) It gets as many things wrong as it does right...ultimately, season two does enough to justify its existence and you'll likely binge-watch it faster than the first. Alexander S 13 Reasons Why Season 2 delves deeper into the darkest aspects of high school, intensifying near the season’s conclusion. However, it fails to provide a satisfying continuation from the first season. In fact, it seems to be relying solely on its visual appeal and the continuation of a teenage drama series that is being exploited for its entertainment value. Grading: C Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/18/25 Full Review Craig M Should have stopped at season 1. This season they added too many retcons that don't add up with season 1. Almost all the characters had different personalities. From what I heard a lot of the creative writers quit after season 1 which explains a lot, no proof its just from what I heard from someone who used to work on the show. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/10/25 Full Review Yesake B This season was probably the worst one in my opinion. If they would have put clay in therapy in season 2 I think it would have had a great dynamic moving from season 1 to season 2 so that way parents or any adult watching can have more understanding on how kids experience when it come with grief and lose by listening to him talking. I don’t know what this was. There was so many flash backs, I couldn’t tell which one was true, which one wasn’t. It’s was nothing. It wasn't bad as people made it out to be. Clay and Justin were the best characters, it was funny yet bittersweet. I give it a 94% overall.
