Graeme Blundell The Australian It’s hard to figure how it all works technically – some say this process represents the future of filmmaking – but the results are extraordinary. Dec 17, 2022 Full Review Nick Schager The Daily Beast Clarity is difficult to come by in the German duo’s latest eight-part effort, and that can sometimes be more vexing than exhilarating. Nonetheless, there remains much to savor about this period-piece whirligig Dec 16, 2022 Full Review Mike McCahill Variety There’s a certain fascination in seeing a show roil beneath the weight of its own intelligent design; by then, however, I fear all but the ultra-obsessive few will have jumped ship. Dec 16, 2022 Full Review Bhuvanesh Chandar The Hindu 1899 treads a risky path of interspersing a carefully-written plot with tighter subplots, but is still riveting throughout despite a few stumbles. Nov 16, 2023 Full Review Martin Carr Yahoo! Movies This seafaring thriller comes from the creators behind 'Dark', which this show looks to replicate with its originality May 20, 2023 Full Review Susan Granger SSG Syndicate This supernatural sci-fi series' 'distorted reality' theme, epitomized by pyramids and triangles, draws from Europe's migrant crisis, coupled with the inexplicable disappearance of ships into the Bermuda Triangle. It certainly deserves a second season. Rated: 8/10 Jan 18, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Mark H I loved it. So many twists. Well done and well acted. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/30/25 Full Review Patrick R 👎👎👎 ... Unfortunately, the series adopts that famous superficial and careless narrative approach, as admitted by the author Jantje Friese herself: 'I put things in the story that I don't know the meaning of and I'm not interested in explaining.' Many mysterious elements that appear crucial to the plot are continuously introduced, but only a small part (about 20%) is chosen solely in the final episode to give the story its ultimate meaning, leaving 80% without significance or explanation, just as the authors stated. This makes the audience feel cheated and made fun of, as many details presented as important ultimately turn out to be truly completely senseless. Ultimately, the series appears as a more childish version of Proyas' great work 'Dark City'... almost a copy, but full of very pronounced stereotypes (just like in cartoons) and without any attempt at depth. Just one example of this superficiality? The villain of the story is depicted as such, but without ever offering any motivation or logical reason; in other words, you have to accept that he's the antagonist, but if you stop to ask yourself why, you won't find anything that explains it. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 04/16/25 Full Review Chris F Just finished watching for the third time since it came out and still love it. Great atmosphere, acting, lighting and story. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/23/25 Full Review Chris P Pretty entertaining but without a 2nd season what's the point. Once again frustrated. I can't understand why companies like Netflix can put out a show and then decide to cancel it without some kind of conclusion. If canceling a show is a decision by the company fine, i get it; but, if canceling a show then make one final episode somehow giving it a conclusion. Going forward i'm doing some research before i start to watch a new show-tired of the disappointments Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/14/25 Full Review Sarah S So gripping I found myself up into the wee hours of the night dodging sleep before an early morning at work to watch just one more episode for the chance to finally figure out what the hell was happening. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/23/24 Full Review Amanda M Watched the entire series and was still none the wiser nor was I entertained. I was drawn by the period drama which was similar to titanic, so thought oooh this would be good. I just found the whole thing annoying and frustrating Would not recommend wasting your time on this earth watching this. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/16/24 Full Review Read all reviews
