Christopher Hawthorne Los Angeles Times It is impressive enough to leave you wishing it might have dug deeper and been a shade less boosterish about its subjects. Mar 24, 2020 Full Review Rob Walker The New Yorker If the first season of "Abstract" settles the question of design's cool cultural status, maybe it can also lead to a new version of the conversation (in Season 2?) about what design is, and why we should care. Mar 24, 2020 Full Review Liz Shannon Miller IndieWire It is fascinating to see this sort of focus applied to the creation of what we might otherwise take for granted, and appreciate not just the art, but the artist behind this work. Rated: B+ Apr 25, 2017 Full Review Melissa Camacho Common Sense Media Insightful design docu highlights innovators, has cursing. Rated: 4/5 May 18, 2020 Full Review Dominic Patten Deadline Hollywood Daily It's also a ton of fun, with lots of great nuggets of info - like the influence Paris' Pompidou Center had on Nike design - that you'll likely find yourself telling others at work and parties after you've watched the series. Mar 24, 2020 Full Review Rob Thomas Capital Times (Madison, WI) "Abstract" is an invigorating series showing how much thought and effort goes into the objects in our lives, both the grand and the everyday. Keith S S.1 Ep.4 'Bjarke Ingels Architecture' The designer for this episode is Bjarke Ingels, he is part of an architecture platform and creates buildings. So obviously the artform was Architecture. However, he's not the only person in the documentary he has a group of architectures that work together on their projects. They designed buildings all over the world, even in New York. Their designs were very modern and futuristic and they always had one thing in their design that was different from the blocky, plain buildings around them. Ingels was the focus of the film talked about how the company grew, his childhood and hobbies. The best part of the film in my opinion was when they started to show all the buildings that they designed, as it shows inspiration for young architects. Plus it's a showcase of their achievements, which could inspire people to try and achieve things like that. From the film, I learned that less is more' and that architecture is something that takes a very long amount of time. Architecture isn't just a few years in college thing, it's a dedication. I also learnt that one small thing could change everything! Review by Ella D. (aged 12 yrs.) Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Little quirky, dazzled with funky animation and cinematography. Lacks the poise and elegance of Chef's Table. It's quirky nature often makes me wonder why am I watching this. Nonetheless it attracts people like me who likes art and design. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member thank you netflix. gave me a very positive vibe Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member "Abstract" take us to the minds of this amazing designers that in her own perception of desing are guiding us through their personal abstract process, in order to archive great desing. It`s also really personal in the way that this artist are presenting their own lives, desires, and even sometimes fears, and how all of this, encourage and inspire themselfs in order to create a magnificent piece of art. That gets designated desing. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Episode 1: A new unique show that really show the other side of something I've never seen before. I can tell how difficult it was for both the artist and director to figure out how to fill an hour, but every moment still managed to be unique, moving and inspirational. Utterly amazing! Episode 4: This episode was VERY INTERSTING BUT I DID FIND IT BORING AT TIMES. I really admire BJARKE and how he's changing architecture and was surprised to learn how out of the box some architects think. This provided me with a perspective iI had never come across before.
