      Critics Consensus

American Housewife is boosted by a strong and enjoyable lead performance by Katy Mixon, yet her performance alone strains to sustain an excessively quirky show that relies too heavily on stereotypes.

Ellen Gray Philadelphia Inquirer The writing in the two episodes I've seen is funnier and more pointed than the show's premise. Aug 21, 2019 Full Review Hank Stuever Washington Post The show benefits from the current cultural backlash against flawless families and Pinterest perfection. Rated: B Jan 25, 2019 Full Review Amber Dowling TheWrap The subject matter is in good hands with Mixon in the lead, a casting choice that should leave "bad moms" everywhere celebrating. Or at the very least ditching those godawful green smoothies. Jun 13, 2018 Full Review Rob Lowman Los Angeles Daily News Once called "The Second Fattest Housewife in Westport," the series hits the usual notes but doesn't sing. Aug 21, 2019 Full Review Kevin Fallon The Daily Beast Katy Mixon is a star. It's honestly her intense likability that makes this show so watchable. Aug 21, 2019 Full Review Ken Tucker Yahoo! TV I'm pretty sure having Mixon's Katie Otto make disparaging remarks about "skinny mommies in tight white jeans" isn't the best delivery-system for a celebration of all things good about Katy Mixon. karlosest Amazing comedy to watch Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/15/23 Full Review Green C One of the best written comedies I've seen. Rapid-fire gotta keep up! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Maria P I love this show! I have watched season one so many times. Still makes me laugh. Such a great writing and acting. Katy acting is amazing! I need more! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I hate this show. The MOM character is the worst, the rest of the characters are ok. She reflects the worst in humanity, she is not funny, not charismatic or not even a good mother. Why do they keep on torturing us with her face? Please disappear her like in Rossane and keep the rest of the show. I think Diedrich Bader, the husband could be funnier, he is a good actor in a poor character. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Love this show! The actors work so good together Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a review
