Eccentric Gotham City tycoon Bruce Wayne dons tights to fight crime as Batman, aided by pal Dick Ward as equally Spandex-clad Robin, in this '60s camp classic. Together, they fight evildoers such as the Penguin, the Joker, the Riddler, Egghead, Catwoman and Mr. Freeze.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Holy mixed reception, Batman! - this deadpan farce translates the beloved comic strip with the punch of an onomatopoeia panel, but its overload of camp can be as grating as it is amusing.

Age Staff The Age (Australia) A dose of nonsense, say the psychologists, is good for the soul. If they are right, a lot of therapy is contained in Batman. Feb 18, 2021 Full Review David Wheeler Guardian Like other developments of the age of electronic marvels, it compresses much into little. With only 25 minutes, it contains more reasons for not watching television than anything previously launched on either side of the Atlantic. Feb 17, 2021 Full Review Clay Gowran Chicago Tribune Batman's squareness is kind of confusing. ABC people asserts he is so "out" he's "in," which doesn't mean much to those of us who don't speak go-go language. All we know is, he and his dialogue get into wonderful situations. Feb 17, 2021 Full Review Win Fanning Pittsburgh Post-Gazette The clichés were laid on like the layers of a wedding cake. Unlike the 007 adventures, this one was all just too, too, coy. Feb 17, 2021 Full Review Frank Penn Ottawa Citizen A curious thing. Where television adaptions of good original books or plays are usually reduced to almost unrecognizable shadows of themselves, Batman is a faithful absurdity-for-absurdity reproduction of the comic strip. Feb 17, 2021 Full Review Bill Morrison News & Observer (Raleigh, NC) The show is an attempt to affect and so follow camp. It fails, proving [that] abysmally bad isn't automatically camp, which is logically naive and not calculated. Feb 17, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews

Leo M The Adam West era of "Batman" is an indubitable classic as it is amusingly corny, with the spandex-clad crime fighters making their first and unforgettable appearance on television. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/14/25 Full Review Audience Member BATMAN was an iconic TV show that become a cultural phenomenon. High camp & so much fun. Batman & Robin fought off their rogues' gallery of villains, like Catwoman, Joker, Riddler, & Penguin. The guest villains were a blast. Sit back & enjoy. It still has some of the best versions of the characters ever. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews
