      2011 Crime Drama List
91% 34 Reviews Tomatometer 98% 250+ Ratings Audience Score Atlantic City at the dawn of Prohibition is a place where the rules don't apply. And the man who runs things -- legally and otherwise -- is the town's treasurer, Enoch "Nucky" Thompson, who is equal parts politician and gangster. Side by side with his brother Elias, Atlantic City's sheriff, and a crew of ward bosses and local tough guys, Nucky gains a reputation as the man to see for illegal alcohol. He does business with all the top gangsters -- Al Capone, Lucky Luciano, "Big Jim" Colosimo -- and he does it well ... until a former protégé takes matters into his own hands, setting the Feds on Nucky's tail. Edward Davis indieWire Where the show clearly shines is in its tremendous cast that's constantly elevating the material and making you care enough to stick around to see who betrays whom and where the drama will go. Jun 15, 2018 Full Review Michael Noble Den of Geek It has managed to escape some the hype that greeted its arrival and establish itself as a show with something to say. Jun 14, 2018 Full Review Tom Gliatto People Magazine Not enough time is spent on Buscemi, with his grasshopper intensity, or Michael Shannon, who's frightening yet funny as a neurotic government agent combatting bootleggers. Boardwalk is still solid, but it's sacrificed some of its nervy power. Jun 14, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

JM M Continues to be an amazing thriller. Great tv series Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/24/24 Full Review Distant O Seasons One and Two are superb. A dramatic arc that was worth of (and maybe derivative of) Shakespeare. But of course, the writers were keen to carry on and to wring every last drop of dramatic potential they could out of the characters and the plot. And so they did. Watch Seasons One and Two, give the other seasons a pass. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/24/23 Full Review evan m Continues season one perfectly. Starts to get a little lazy on the cinematography but the dialog and plot is still A+ Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Season 2 of Boardwalk Empire is one of the best seasons of any HBO series, EVER. They do an amazing job of engaging viewers immediately, by creating villains that people love to hate. The season is full of action, and does a great job of helping you relive the true prohibition era. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member The first two seasons are perhaps Boardwalk Empire's finest, but the second season stands out among the rest for its ability to set in motion a tragedy of Greek proportion that send the characters of this ensemble cast spiraling into each other. Nearly every character is fleshed out, their backgrounds and motivations made more clear, and the fuse of their destinies is lit in convincing fashion. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the most structured, layered, and complex series ever. Each tiny event shapes up another, all occurring simultaneously. Plenty of main characters, each beautifully written for their arc and purposes. Highly political mafia stuffs with quality dialogues, flawless acting, artistic details, and Grammy winning music.
