The Caffee brothers live in an Irish-American neighborhood in Providence, R.I., known as "the Hill." Tommy Caffee is a family man whose ambition and street smarts help him navigate the world of Providence politics, protecting the Hill at all costs. Unfortunately, his gangster brother Mike returns to town, hoping to take over the city's underworld activities. Complicating matters further are Tommy and Mike's proud mother Rose, Tommy's wife Eileen, gang boss Freddie Cork and local detective Declan Giggs.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Brotherhood achieves an authentic sense of place while unleashing ferociously good actors onto a story rife with thought-provoking moral quandaries, but some viewers may find the series too glum and patient in its storytelling.

Tom Shales Washington Post It will take time to develop interest in the Providential population -- more time than many a viewer is willing to give. Nov 15, 2018 Full Review Alan Sepinwall Newhouse News Service If you're of the school of thought that there are only a half-dozen or so basic stories out there and what matters most is the execution, then "Brotherhood" does a strong job of transcending its familiar roots. Nov 15, 2018 Full Review William Thomas Empire Magazine What sets Brotherhood aside from the majority of crime-focused TV is that, like The Sopranos, it maintains a finely nuanced sense of morality. Each character is fully fleshed out, crowned by Isaacs' Michael, a complex antihero. Rated: 4/5 Nov 15, 2018 Full Review Scott Von Doviak culturevulture.net It's designed to grab your attention and rub your face in the fact that this is going to be an edgy pay-cable show that breaks all the rules, but it plays almost as a Sopranos parody. Nov 16, 2018 Full Review Kari Croop Common Sense Media Brotherhood packs a wallop in terms of foul language and graphic violence, but it also offers complex characters whose motivations run deep. Rated: 4/5 Nov 15, 2018 Full Review Tom Gliatto People Magazine Clarke, an Australian actor, is charismatic and convincing... Isaacs, a British actor known as Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies, plays Michael with more star swagger. Rated: 3/4 Nov 15, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews
