Ben Travers PopMatters Season five was thankfully lighter fare, but the writers again felt compelled to throw in an unexpected and unwelcome curve right before the buzzer sounded. Some may still be waiting in anticipation, but I'm sick of waiting in dread. Rated: 5/10 Dec 17, 2013 Full Review Kenny Herzog AV Club That's the great pleasure of Californication. It's never stayed grounded for very long, even within single exchanges or encounters, let alone entire episodes. Rated: B- Jan 8, 2012 Full Review Jonathan Pacheco Slant Magazine Kapinos's resolve to find a fresh approach for Californication wherever it may be sacrifices some of the show's consistent strengths, such as Hank and Charlie's brotherly relationship. Rated: 2/4 Jan 8, 2012 Full Review Matt Joseph We Got This Covered Californication has never been one for superb writing and compelling plots but still, this is the loosest storyline we've seen out of any season. There is honestly nothing going on, aside from random shenanigans and hi-jinxes. Oct 11, 2018 Full Review Chris O'Hara TV Fanatic It seems fitting that the show's production company is Aggressive Mediocrity Inc. because that's exactly what Californication is headed toward unless something is done to breathe life back into this series. enlightened d This is when the show started getting bad. The fifth season has its moments, but the story arc of the first through fourth seasons will not be beat. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member This show should have ended a long time ago. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Doesn't feel like Californication. Feels like Hank is surrounded by a sea of crap that even he doesn't wanna stay by! Except Charlie and Karen are still great, as always. This is the worst and most consistent season, and a little weird. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Pretty good, comparable to 1 and 2. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
