Critics Consensus

Courteney Cox is a strong lead, but too often Cougar Town overdoses on attempts at edginess while ignoring its potentially interesting ideas.

Juliana Tringali Bitch Media I could only assume that a show called Cougar Town would be woefully, painfully, pathetically unfunny as well. But I'm happy to say it's not. Dec 23, 2020 Full Review Brian Tallerico HollywoodChicago.com The show is still too inconsistent to stand with the best comedies on television and it really paled in comparison to its freshman classmates of the form last year in "Glee," "Modern Family," and "Community," but there's a lot to like here. Rated: 3.5/5 Jan 10, 2019 Full Review Heather Havrilesky Salon.com What makes Cougar Town so bad is that we're supposed to find these mincing, wincing, mediocre women so charming. Jan 10, 2019 Full Review Keith Watson metro.co.uk Cox sucks you in so sweetly, who wouldn't swing along for the ride? Jan 10, 2019 Full Review Eric Hochberger TV Fanatic We know the rest of the web seems to disagree, but we really think that Cougar Town, like wine and its gorgeous star, has been getting better with age. Jan 10, 2019 Full Review Brendan Bettinger Collider How good can a show called Cougar Town be? Well, not great at first. I didn't like the pilot much at all... [But] as I (and the writers) got to know the characters better, the show became infinitely more enjoyable. Jan 10, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Test T I watched this on dvd recently. It consists of twenty four 20 minute episodes and some extra content spread across 4 discs. I found the first few episodes very enjoyable and entertaining. Courteney Cox is great and really nails the lead role. She hits the ground running from the start delivering a bright and bubbly performace which is easy and fun to watch. The supporting cast are great too, but with their characters emerging more slowly. The pace is fast and the episodes seem to fly by so effortlessly, it's amost impossible to loose focus. Progressing though the series, things continued in a similar vein, however I noticed a few continuity issues between episodes which seemed strange. I also noticed that the first few episodes were very story orientated, but on the second disc when the characters were established, episodes were loosing some of this structure and playing more like a series of sketches. The characters were still funny and likable, but it felt like they were loosing direction. Thankfully, this only lasted for a few episodes before things got back on course with better stories appearing again from disc three onwards. As a whole series, I really enjoyed it. I liked the positivity, and the Florida setting which always made it feel fresh and exciting. The comedy is great too, with lots of funny moments layed intelligently within the scripts. I am really looking forward to watching more series in the future. Highly recommended. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/17/24 Full Review Paul L I simply love this show and cast. Courtney shines as the star of this group of friends, while Christa embraces her role as the friend who says whatever she wants regardless of others perceptions. Great season for this Bill Lawrence creation. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/24/23 Full Review Nick S Fun spiritual successor to Friends with a good cast and some cool cameos. It's quirky enough to watch, and not only as a background tv show. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/28/22 Full Review Audience Member Tried to hard to make it work. Cougar Town season 1 was a disaster with stereotypical stock characters and unbelievable dialogues. Did not laugh at all for the entire duration of the season. Courtney Cox tried and failed.
