What to Know

Critics Consensus

Neither as fun or transgressive as the original Cruel Intentions, this television adaptation doesn't cut deep enough to make much of an impression.

Poppie Platt Daily Telegraph (UK) The majority of the show merely veers into pastiche, as the cast desperately churn out their impersonations of their superior predecessors. Rated: 1/5 Dec 6, 2024 Full Review Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) This latest take, set at a Washington, DC, university, has very little to add to project’s accumulated worth. The performances are shallow, the seductiveness stale. Dec 3, 2024 Full Review Daniel Fienberg The Hollywood Reporter Its attempts to update the already updated tale are mostly hollow, and its ensemble of pretty young actors mostly forgettable. Nov 26, 2024 Full Review Tatat Bunnag Bangkok Post The series lacks the edge, wit and substance that made the original film iconic, leaving viewers like me disappointed and unengaged. As for a second season? I'm not holding my breath. Dec 19, 2024 Full Review Alex Maidy JoBlo's Movie Network This new series’s creators had the best intentions with their reimagining, but the results are just plain cruel. Rated: 4/10 Dec 10, 2024 Full Review Francesca Steele iNews.co.uk This teen-centric rehash tries to be Gossip Girl meets Pretty Little Liars, but its not nearly fun enough. Fernando B The one star is for production credits. The only thing thats ok about this re-imagining. 1) Lucien is not sexy at all. A twinky boy with no sex appeal. It would be ok if this was freshman year of high school, not college. 2) Cece became an organizing obsessive freak instead of the innocent dumb-sweet Cecile played by SalmanBlair, losing all the characters empathy. Totally lost it. 3) Changing it to a Washington DC college also broke the idea of destroying an innocent girl. It became political when switching the bet to make Annie join a fraternity. Bottom line - some good moments, but not a drip of what made the original so amazing. I have seen the original in the movie theatres when it came out in 1999, and many times after. It just gets better. This version? I was hoping it to be over sooner. And the ending: There is no ending. And lets not hope for a secong season either. Pitty to have such potential for a good show wasted. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/19/24 Full Review Mars A Gotta say, had my doubts.... but outstanding job reviving this classic! The characters are fun and the scandals sell. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/17/24 Full Review I'm A D I actually enjoyed this show and hope that there's a season 2. I gave this a 4 out of 5 stars because if they're gonna do sex scenes, they need to show nudity. Other than that, it was a fun watch and I highly recommend it to people who were fans of the original movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/09/24 Full Review Erin S Such boring, long-winded, dense writing. The original was sexy and fun to watch. The actor playing Lucien looks like a twink from the 80s. And he’s supposed to be sexually undeniable to women???? Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/08/24 Full Review Tyler J Regardless of critic reviews, season 1 was actually very much enjoyable and I would hope for future seasons to come, especially with how the show runners hope to pace the show. Season 1 was actually very great developing piece that will pave the way for events that unfolded. Character development is clearly at the hands of the manipulation of those around them in their inner circles, but in a good way. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/06/24 Full Review Audience Member I liked it. That’s all there is to it. I’m intrigued and want to see a season 2.
