Cruel Summer's sophomore outing may lack the same bite that made its inaugural season such a pleasure, but the format's sturdy construction still makes for the television equivalent of a bingeable beach read. Read critic reviews

While it does fail to capture the intrigue of season one, and starts off tamely, Cruel Summer's second season is manages to pick itself up and deliver a fairly interesting mystery.

Too many unanswered questions and plot holes topped off with a cliffhanger ending that will have no conclusion adds up to just a disappointing mess… the story had a lot of potential overall but a lot of story arks go unanswered or unresolved, unless they do a 3rd season to continue this story and give it an ending that feels conclusive and that the story fully deserves I believe it will hurt the franchise, we need justice for Luke!

What is with the characters changing so drastically in 1 year? In both seasons they go from this sweet innocent girl to a goth girl who wants to give up on life. And what is with Megan's hair do in season two July 2000? I was in highschool in 2000 and no one (NO ONE) had wet slicked back hair on top. It looks like she hasn't washed her hair in months. 🙄

Switched off when halfway through, it's 1999 and to justify a huge narrative a character reveals a detailed home security system that another character states "oh wow you've got fibre, I've heard of that" It's 1999 He lives in the woods It's totally implausible and I can't be bothered with stupid shark jumping moments like this

Had high hopes after season one, but despite being mostly irritated by the characters and their development, this was at utmost average.

Kept us engaged the whole time! Loved this season just as much as the last

Season 2 suffered from it's poor pacing. Absolutely nothing happened for eight straight episodes, then everything accelerated from 0 to 100 between episodes nine and ten. Luke's character was quite flat until the ninth episode, when you are actually given insight into what he really was dealing with in regards to his overbearing father and douchebag of a brother(the only character who actually grew and did the right thing). The ending of episode 10 kinda kills the impact of what Brent does, and it kind of left me disappointed. The acting wasn't really bad for it being a freeform show, but compared to season 1 (which I'd give a 5) it just doesn't stand up. I hope if they do make another season they change the pacing and do something more like what they did in season 1 where it really showed the people involved in the plot and the people around them and what they were going through. Overall, it was okay.

        Can't sustain season 1's energy

Ugh. Absolutely not worth a second of watch time. Who writes this tosh? Zero plot. Zero character development. Zero. Skip. Dear god learn from my mistake.

I did enjoy this season, however only 4 stars because it did leave questions unanswered that I think would have helped with the character development . I definitely would recommend both seasons are done very well and do keep you wondering.
