"Seinfeld" co-creator Larry David plays a version of himself on the improvised series. He faces a constant barrage of life's little annoyances, which in David's sometimes well-meaning but terminally fumbling hands don't tend to stay small for very long. Episodes frequently center on his ignorance of or disregard for well-established social conventions and expectations, as well as his insistence that others adhere to rules of which only he seems to be aware. Developed from a 1999 one-hour special on HBO that was envisioned as a one-time project, the series premiered in October 2000.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

In addition to the impressively improvised dialogue, Curb's fourth season offers new scenarios in which Larry is still able to offend anyone and everyone.

Matthew Gilbert Boston Globe This is cringe comedy at its giddiest best. Jan 24, 2020 Full Review Tim Goodman San Francisco Chronicle Larry David...is unparalleled in this country at making daring comedy squeamishly funny. Jun 13, 2018 Full Review Austin Smith New York Post Their marriage is the underpinning that holds the whole show together, but this season's subplot, in which Cheryl gave Larry permission to have a fling, never rang true, and it was milked to death. Jun 12, 2018 Full Review Rob Owen Pittsburgh Post-Gazette "Curb" is an acquired taste to be sure, and for some viewers it no doubt proves too abrasive to acquire. But with its attention to picayune details, it's the closest thing to a successful "Seinfeld" spinoff on the air. May 3, 2019 Full Review John Paulsen Bullz-Eye.com While it is impossible for "Curb" to recapture the freshness of its debut season, the show is still going strong and each episode contains several water-cooler moments. Rated: 4/5 Jun 14, 2018 Full Review Tim Whitelaw PopMatters Some of the gags in Season Four push the show over the edge into knock-about silliness...but its many resonant moments come from watching David do exactly what he shouldn't, and remaining steadfast in the conviction that he did nothing wrong.
