Dexter Morgan is a Miami-based blood splatter expert who doesn't just solve murders; he commits them too. In fact, he's a serial killer -- but he only murders the guilty, so he feels justified with his lifestyle choices. His policewoman sister and his cop co-workers have no idea Dexter lives a double life; however, adoptive father Harry knows his secret, and does, in fact, help Dexter hone his "skills." It's a unique brand of justice for which charming Dexter feels a psychological hunger.

Michelle Dean Bitch Media I am not sure yet whether the series' introduction of a new blond woman for Dexter to protect - Julia Stiles' Lumen Pierce - is going to add new depth to the show's treatment of these matters. Dec 30, 2020 Full Review Emily Nussbaum New York Magazine/Vulture It would be offensively glib if they didn't treat the aftermath [of season four] seriously. But so far, they've been pulling it off masterfully. Jan 9, 2019 Full Review Sam Wollaston Guardian It's good to have Dexter back. It manages to be brutal, tragic, sad, beautiful and funny all at the same time. Jun 17, 2011 Full Review Anthony Ocasio Screen Rant Lumen, as a whole, slowed this season down... An intriguing plot, but when executed, it was generally over-emphasized and drawn out. Jan 9, 2019 Full Review Matt Richenthal TV Fanatic Stopped being a character study a long time ago and settled in as a thrilling suspense drama. It's one I've still enjoyed immensely, but this season finale made me realize how the show doesn't really have many directions in which to go at this point. Rated: 3.6/5 Jan 9, 2019 Full Review Brendan Bettinger Collider I have no idea where the season arc is headed. I haven't really, truly felt either of these things since season two, which belongs in the pantheon of high-tension TV. Jan 9, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member I'm starting to get tired of this, Dexter. This was another season where the characters completely forget the existence of characters from the previous seasons. This was overall okay, and was much better in comparison to the fourth season, but I'm starting to get tired of these characters having short-term memory loss. Please stop creating plots then immediately dropping them completely and never mentioning them ever again after their seasons are over. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/02/25 Full Review Tijs v Season 5 gets of to a rocky start, which is clear from the quality of the first 4 episodes which in my opinion are not on par with the earlier quality we have grown used to. Thankfully the season picks up speed as it goes along and increase the quality. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/14/25 Full Review Craig H This is where you see the quality start to dip slightly but overall a solid maybe underrated season. Lumen was a good addition and the Jordan Chase did a great job considering he had to follow up The Trinity Killer Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/13/25 Full Review Theo K Amazing season. Julia stiles as lumen absolutely steals the spotlight. Love it. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/25 Full Review Priyansh K i just did not like that how they instantly just showed dexter with another women without dexter even remembering rita for whose death he believed he was responsible. I think it was too early to show dexter getting involved with women if season 6 story would have used first i can think that it could make any sense but as a viewer i did not liked lumen at all Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/25 Full Review Annette B Probably my favourite season—I love the concept that Dexter can be the hero to someone, heal them and help them. Obviously all of this remains a bit screwed up in terms of Dexter being a psychopathic serial killer, but still, it’s nice to have that soft side of him brought out both in his relationship with Harrison and Lumen. No deterioration of any of the other factors that make this a good series—the acting is as good as ever, cinematography, score, storyline—everything is top-notch. I’ll say one thing, there are a few slight questionable moments where logic would say that either Dexter should’ve been caught by now or more questions should’ve been asked by his colleagues, but I have a wonderful blind spot for that type of thing, because ultimately it’s just fiction and realism is overrated 🤣 Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/31/24 Full Review Read all reviews
