Is there a dyspeptic doctor in the house? Successful surgeon Dr. Martin Ellingham abruptly leaves his London practice to become general practitioner in the sleepy fishing village of Portwenn, where he spent the holidays during his youth. But his luxury car and lavish wardrobe immediately rub the locals the wrong way, and once they get a load of his abrasive attitude and lack of bedside manner, he quickly alienates most of the townsfolk.

June Thomas Slate Doc Martin is sweet, stirring, and completely addictive. Perhaps it's the gorgeous scenery, perhaps it's the magnificent acting, or could it be the ugly mugs that make it so irresistible? Feb 6, 2019 Full Review Tom Sutcliffe Independent (UK) As a very irregular viewer of ITV1's home-grown grumpy doctor drama, I'm not well equipped to comment on its current gait, but I would have said that last night's episode counted as a canter at the very least, rising to a gallop for short sections. Feb 5, 2019 Full Review Damain Thompson Daily Telegraph (UK) The scripts have a slight tang of nastiness about them -- too slight for my tastes, but just occasionally its mockery of the Cornish locals reminds me of the take-no-prisoners humour of Nighty Night. Feb 5, 2019 Full Review Mark Voger Newark Star-Ledger I would follow the series' marvelous star, Martin Clunes, down any rabbit hole, and Doc Martin is a fine showcase for his gifts. Feb 5, 2019 Full Review Stuart Galbraith DVDTalk.com Funny and charming; if there's a drop-off in quality it's extremely slight and the series remains highly enjoyable. Rated: 4/5 Feb 5, 2019 Full Review Jose Solís PopMatters Truth be told, it's the performances that truly elevate Doc Martin from a silly comedic soap opera into miniature character studies. Dee K The Doc Martin character during seasons 1 thru 4 has been a consistent animal abuser and has neglected his faithful dog and any area pets thereafter. Martin is either on the spectrum or has been written as a rude and contemptible human being. The entire town is dysfunctional except Louisa, who is abused by all - particularly Martin. At this point the series is irredeemable in my view and I'll not watch further episodes. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/24 Full Review Andrew S Sub-par season. They made Martin way too unlikable.
