Nancy Banks-Smith Guardian Even allowing for the fact that the world is going to end in 20 minutes ("The universe is cracked!"), you do feel he could simmer down a bit. And that goes for the new scriptwriter, Steven Moffatt. Feb 28, 2020 Full Review Keith Phipps AV Club Like Tennant's first appearance, Smith throws himself into the part as if he'd been playing it all along, even though he shows up wearing Tennant's old clothes and still shaking up some of the after-effects of his transformation. Rated: A- Mar 5, 2019 Full Review Dan Martin Guardian A whole new world of regulars is seamlessly introduced, the story has both pace and complexity, and it's refreshing not be in London again. Mar 5, 2019 Full Review Patrick Mulkern Radio Times I may be chancing my arm, but it's obvious from the off that the 11th Doctor will be up there with the greatest. Despite his youth, Matt Smith instantly embodies our ancient hero, the "mad man with a box". Rated: 5/5 Mar 5, 2019 Full Review Matt Wales IGN Movies Despite the occasional misfire though, it's hard to knock Steven Moffat's remarkably assured debut as Doctor Who show runner. Season 5 mightn't have been perfect but it reinvigorated the aging time-travel format with a burst of creative energy. Rated: 8.5/10 Mar 5, 2019 Full Review Dave Golder SFX Magazine Ablaze with confidence, subtly shifting from the cinematic verve of the Russell T Davies era to a quirky new flavour. Fan O While not a personal favorite of mine, Amy and 11's character work is fantastic and Rory is explored well for a love interest if not as a companion in his own right. Amy's Choice is a fantastic episode for the whole tardis team and a wonderful concept in it's own right. Beast Below is the first of the more just there episodes of the moffat era, which are all consistently entertaining but lacking much deeper substance and having a number of choices that give just the wrong impression. Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone are not River Song's best episodes, but it introduces a lot of the new questions of her character and seeing her dynamic with a doctor who knows her is a treat. Vincent and The Doctor's ending scene is beautiful, as are a number of other scenes, but the episode itself isn't the most exciting. A bit too much downtime but the characters are fantastic, and that's the core of the show. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/20/25 Full Review James M Perfect introduction episode for the doctor and one of the best episodes of all time. Perfect for new fans to the show. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/13/25 Full Review Rose G perfect self-contained jumping on point for doctor who. matt smith is an incredible actor with a fresh and original yet classic take on the 1000 year old alien. the cracks in time and space make every episode important and exciting all leading up to the final big bang. all the episodes have compelling concepts meeting Vincent van Gogh, dream worlds, Venusian vampires, the Silurian's and daleks during WWII overall I think Steven (the Moff) Moffat is the goat sauce Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/13/25 Full Review Aeson L Big fan : p, loves to Matt from hungary such an inspiration Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/03/24 Full Review Justin B Matt Smith and Steven Moffat effortlessly move the Doctor into a sci-fi fairy tale yarn that is brilliantly engaging. Smith’s Doctor ranges from the eccentric to the brave and his companions Amy and Rory round out an excellent Tardis crew. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/21/24 Full Review Daniel R Matt Smith sells us on the next doctor, and the whole series with him and character arcs of all the friends. There’s so much upside and exploration to be done, the writing is creative and tries to weave in all the components that makes Dr Who a real treasured property.
