Eric Deggans NPR While I love what Capaldi has done with the Doctor, I'm much less thrilled about the stories he's been featured in. Nov 7, 2014 Full Review Geoff Berkshire Variety Introducing a new Doctor is always something of a gamble in the Doctor Who universe, but producers have made a savvy choice in Peter Capaldi as the 12th incarnation of the iconic time (and space) traveler. Aug 28, 2014 Full Review Alasdair Wilkins AV Club Both the Doctor and Doctor Who needed clarity, and that's what this new incarnation represents. Peter Capaldi's Doctor is the minimalist, back-to-basics take on the character. Rated: B+ Aug 28, 2014 Full Review Chris McCoy Memphis Flyer Overall, Capaldi's first episode seems flat and uninspired. If he is to be the actor to regenerate a franchise crushed under the weight of its own history, Moffat is going to have to find new places for the TARDIS to go. Jan 8, 2020 Full Review Amanda Greever The Daily Times (Tennessee) It's pretty evident that Moffatt is figuring out where he can take Capaldi's Doctor. Jan 31, 2019 Full Review Will Salmon SFX Magazine Season eight is not without its wobbles, but as an attempt to inject surprise and danger into this show again, it's a huge success. Rated: 4.5/5 Dec 6, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

Fan O This 5 stars may make you think I think this season is flawless. I don't. But it's perfect to me. I could go on about how I think one line went too far, or how Danny and Clara needed more chemistry, but this season truly showcased the Doctor and Clara at their best and worsts and it's beautiful. This season explore both of their flaws thoroughly, and does it while having a very fun time. Time heist is an exciting if a bit unimaginative execution of it's concept, and Mummy on the Orient Express mixes drama, character exploration, and mystery(if not the kind you'd expect in a murder mystery) to perfection. Missy was a highlight, as she will go on to be, and the complexities of her relationship with the doctor and view of the world never ceases to be entertaining. The next season needs this to work. And next season is just as good. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/20/25 Full Review Kyle W Peter Capaldi is brilliant and I like him more than I thought I would. Glad that Clara is still here. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/10/24 Full Review Aeson L Awesome Doctor! It's gives us a different vibe from Matt but I love the direction. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/03/24 Full Review Justin B Peter Capaldi brings an alien coldness to the Doctor as Nu-Who feels closer to the classic series than ever. With a shifting dynamic between Doctor and companion at the heart of the season and a well focused central mystery, Moffat has reinvented the show in impressive yet subtle ways. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/21/24 Full Review Audience Member I survived an episode and a half of the series. Mind-numbingly dull. Somehow, the whole gist of the season is Clara getting dementia and questioning whether the new Doctor is evil or not. I kind of get what they were going with Capaldi in his first season but switching that 180 by trying to bring back the Matt Smith personality onto Twelve just completely destroyed any credit this doctor had (almost like a boomer grandpa trying to be hip and cool). If this is what you get with Twelve and Clara, after them it's all downhill from here, except twelve's final episode alongside the 1st doctor. There was a time where when Capaldi was first announced as the twelve doctor (when I was up to date with the series way back), I associated Capaldi with Malcolm Tucker, the swearing office Scot. Capaldi should have honestly brought that character onto his Doctor persona. I'm pretty sure that was what Capaldi tried going for but Moffat last-minute reminded him that this was a kid's show and had to come up with something toned down. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/15/24 Full Review Asf A a bit rough start. but it catches itself in the middle and gets good Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/12/23 Full Review Read all reviews
