What to Know

Critics Consensus

Doctor Who scales back and is all the better for it with a New Year's special that finds fresh notes within a self-contained yarn.

Tom Nicholson London Evening Standard It's a satisfying, self-contained adventure which skilfully steps past most of the problems which made Flux feel undercooked and offers a way back in for lapsed Who casuals too. Rated: 4/5 Jan 4, 2022 Full Review Isobel Lewis Independent (UK) We watch the same things happen over and over, yet things never feel boring. If anything, this is the most gripping Doctor Who has been in years. Rated: 4/5 Jan 4, 2022 Full Review Martin Belam Guardian As an episode it was fine enough, but it was neither the creepy, claustrophobic, being stalked by Daleks extravaganza it could have been, nor a full-on comedy. Rated: 3/5 Jan 4, 2022 Full Review Emmet Asher-Perrin Tor.com If this was meant to be a time loop episode that existed for the sake of exploring relationship dynamics, then that is an excellent premise… that the show did not deliver on. Jan 24, 2023 Full Review Alex Moreland alexmoreland.co.uk This episode is built around one of the most toxic relationships Doctor Who has ever committed to screen, and that undercuts everything else going on here. Rated: 4/10 Jan 5, 2022 Full Review Patrick Mulkern Radio Times Eve of the Daleks succeeds as a contained piece, a 'locked-room' thriller, sagging only a little in the middle but gaining momentum in the final minute's loop. Rilf Danielson D Very very boring and nonsensical. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/13/24 Full Review David G I didn't think an episode with Daleks could be so dull. The characters are entirely unlikable and the setting is so mediocre. I used to rent a storage like this, it's practical but rather a boring location for an episode. The being killed over and over thing is kind of different. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/09/24 Full Review pigitauch Rarely seen something so bad, what a shame what Dr. Who has become. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/02/24 Full Review Mikhail E Always wanted a Groundhoug Day style episode and here we have one with the daleks obviusly one of the best episodes! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/25/23 Full Review Asf A I didnt thought it can get worse...but i did get worse Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/12/23 Full Review JinzoCrash A "locked room / time loop repeat" romance... but badly written. Ugh. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 12/06/23 Full Review Read all reviews
