"Doctor Who" is a classic science-fiction series with a cult following. The Doctor is called a "Time Lord," a time-traveling scientist from a far-off planet who travels through time and space in a shop known by the acronym TARDIS. A TARDIS is a machine that is larger on the inside than the outside and is supposed to change its appearance based on its surroundings. The Doctor is also able to evolve his biology, so he appears as many different people throughout the series. The Doctor loves Earth, so he makes many trips here to save the planet, or to enlist earthlings to help him with tasks in the galaxy.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Though not Jon Pertwee's finest hour, Doctor Who's eleventh hour has its fair share of entertaining horror and acts as a fine closing chapter to the first Doctor's tenure.

Christopher Bahn AV Club It's no wonder Sarah Jane Smith is, for many fans, the quintessential Doctor Who companion. I'm only surprised it took the show 11 years to come up with her. Mar 4, 2019 Full Review James Peaty Den of Geek Planet Of The Spiders is the perfect story for Pertwee to go out on, as it gives his most vibrant of Doctors both ludicrous feats of derring-do to overcome and several 'moments of charm' within which to sparkle. Mar 4, 2019 Full Review Paul Mount Starburst The best that can really be said about Death to the Daleks is that it's a sturdy, workmanlike bunch of episodes. Rated: 6/10 Mar 4, 2019 Full Review M.M Gilroy-Sinclair Starburst This is not the story we should have had to finish the time of the Third Doctor, we could have had the battle to the death between Third Doctor and the Master. We had to suffice with a six part romp that will please any fan. Rated: 10/10 Mar 4, 2019 Full Review Mark Braxton Radio Times Despite its muddy motivations and Pel-mell plotting, Brian Hayles' second bite of the galactic cherry has its moments. Rated: 2/5 Mar 4, 2019 Full Review Patrick Mulkern Radio Times Ten years into the series and seeds are still being sown that would have far-reaching consequences. Rated: 4/5 Mar 4, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member The final season of Pertwee still sees the stories as a bit of a mixed bag, but bonus points for Sarah Jane... Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
