After substance abuse and insanely self-destructive and obnoxious behavior throw a knuckle ball at his Major League Baseball career, former pitcher Kenny Powers retreats to his North Carolina hometown, where he takes a job teaching physical education at the middle school he once attended. But another chance at potential big league stardom -- or so he thinks -- takes Kenny "down Mexico way," where he thrills the locals as only he can before he returns to the U.S. a changed man. Or is he? The colorful and frequently profane sitcom comes from executive producers Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, among others, and stars Danny McBride ("Tropic Thunder").

Nathan Rabin AV Club Eastbound & Down is so outrageously funny and flashy that it can be easy to forget how fundamentally sad it is at its core. Rated: B+ Jun 4, 2018 Full Review Emily Nussbaum The New Yorker Eastbound & Down holds together so well that it's worth looking past the ugly for the solid performances and the charcoal-black humor beneath. Feb 19, 2012 Full Review Mike Lechevallier Slant Magazine Regardless of its shortcomings, Eastbound & Down can't be faulted for following through on its primary vision. Rated: 2.5/4 Feb 19, 2012 Full Review Josh Indar PopMatters It's a neat trick, casting this awful man as the perennial underdog, because it engenders just enough sympathy to get viewers to sort-of root for him while laughing uncontrollably at his shameful antics. Rated: 7/10 Jun 4, 2018 Full Review Andre Dellamorte Collider On second pass this season is much funnier, because you can relax into the jokes, and there's a lot of great funny one-liners, and great squirm-inducing bits of terrible taste and bad behavior. Jun 4, 2018 Full Review Drew McWeeny Uproxx Powers is the modern Man Baby archetype taken to its logical conclusion, one big live-wire bundle of raw nerve and poor impulse control and hedonistic desire. Topi L It's really hard to watch this season because nothing clicks and even this time the guest celebrities don't win me over. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/31/23 Full Review dave d We're getting there as the writers seem to be playing things a bit more even. We're obviously not living in the reality based world, but every now and then the writers try to go there and it's annoying. Pick a lane! More laughs, but not enough. The show passes the time when you don't wanna think and we all need that sometimes. You don't remember the jokes and McBride just isn't my cup of tea. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member After a lessened (yet still rewarding) second season, Eastbound and Down came back stronger than ever for it's then-presumed final season!
