"Endeavour" follows the newly forged relationship -- both working and personal -- between young DC Endeavour Morse and his senior partner, DI Fred Thursday. Returning actors include Shaun Evans as Endeavour and Roger Allam as Thursday, while Sean Rigby takes on the role of a young PC Strange -- the character who appeared in the original "Morse" series, played by James Grout. Abigail Thaw, the daughter of the first Inspector Morse, John Thaw, makes further guest appearances as Dorothea Frazil. Read More Read Less

Melanie McFarland Salon.com Each scene they share reminds us of what we'll be missing when Thursday and Morse finally part. But these episodes also close out their time and ours satisfactorily. Jun 21, 2023 Full Review John Powers NPR Just as Better Call Saul is, in some ways, more interesting than Breaking Bad, so Endeavour offers more emotional richness than the series that inspired it. Jun 14, 2023 Full Review Jasper Rees Daily Telegraph (UK) With close to perfect pitch, this very final denouement had you sitting ever more uncomfortably. Rated: 4/5 Mar 14, 2023 Full Review Juan Carlos Galindo El Pais (Spain) There are gestures, slight inclinations of the head, three lines on the script that, like in the best stories, offer more than what others do with a five-minute flashback. [Full review in Spanish] Mar 29, 2023 Full Review Pat Stacey Irish Independent What viewers really wanted to know was how things would work out, or maybe not work out, for Morse and the people closest to him. Series creator and sole writer Russell Lewis gave us the answers in a densely plotted, emotionally powerful finale. Rated: 5/5 Mar 15, 2023 Full Review Adam Sweeting The Arts Desk Creator Russell Lewis had crafted a fitting end to the pre-Morse saga, bringing us full circle with closure of sorts. Tom M The finale for this incredible series does not disappoint. As always, the writing, pacing, and acting are superb, and the final conclusion leaves the audience haunted, and wanting more. This, of course, is the sign of a very successful ending for any series. So successful, that I'm now revisiting the orignal "Inspector Morse" and "Lewis" series, looking for answers to the clues "Endeavor" gave us regarding the deep characters and connections. I'd give it more than 5 stars if I could! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/12/24 Full Review Andrew S Fantastic wrap-up to a fantastic show. (There were only a couple episodes in season 8 that felt subpar, other than that is was a consistently well-done show.) Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/10/23 Full Review Ruby R A fitting and superb end to one of my favorite shows. Most characters get come-uppances due. A number of long-running stories are drawn to a satisfactory conclusion. All three episodes in series 9 built up towards the final conclusion and I think most long-time fans would be happy with the outcome. I think everyone was hoping Thursday wouldn't be killed off. I didn't particularly like the silly fantasy bit in the wedding but 30 seconds in hours of TV can be overlooked. My only issue with Endeavor is that it has spoilt Morse for me. I have never seen how Endeavour could turn into Morse and that is by no means a slight on Shaun Evans acting or interpretation. Maybe it is just a matter of dissimilar looks but John Thaw seemed too working class in the early episodes. I'm not usually a fan of remakes but I'd like to see what Mr Evans would make of the original stories in say 15 years when he is older. I am going to read the first source book and see who is the actor that fills my imagination. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/26/23 Full Review Irene A The final season was not good. Especially compared to standards set by previous seasons. It did tie up loose ends, technically, which was probably the main goal. However, the directing, the script, and the editing were poorly done. The main goal of every fictional story, but especially this kind of story, is for the "suspension of disbelief" to be possible and plausible. In this final season, the suspension of disbelief was mostly not possible. There are some genuinely lazy, odd, and cringe moments. It's almost as if everyone involved with the production was very burned out. The final season makes me think that the finale of this series was a bit overdue. I'd definitely recommend earlier seasons and ask the audience to lower their expectations a bit for the last couple of seasons. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/07/23 Full Review TC R Didn't expect Morse to marry Joan but didn't expect the wishy-washy storylines that hardly upheld the suspension of disbelief. We're left with Endeavour never learning to throw a punch and grow up a little more and his dreamy wedding nothings to amuse us lightly. If the writers couldn't keep up the pace of the previous fabulous seasons, then maybe it was time to close up shop. Most programs peek at some point. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/06/23 Full Review Mary S Stunning finale This was an amazing series - maybe better than the original Morse. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/04/23 Full Review Read all reviews
