      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Startlingly disturbing despite its outwardly fuzzy appearance, Eric is a perverse genre-bender that may not fully articulate all of its ideas but offers a memorably demented binge.

Graeme Blundell The Australian The show's ambition, its empathy, central performances and committed direction make for compulsive, if at times harrowing, viewing. Jun 14, 2024 Full Review Mark Kermode Kermode and Mayo's Take (YouTube) The soundtrack alone... it's a real celluloid jukebox soundtrack. Jun 5, 2024 Full Review Judy Berman TIME Magazine It’s only the quirkier half of Eric, an unfocused, inconsistently written, and wonderfully acted show whose ambition is admirable and originality rare in an increasingly formulaic crime genre. Jun 4, 2024 Full Review Laura Fernández El Pais (Spain) The workmanship is, however, so impeccable that, although thick and twisted, it is enjoyable. Peter K A lot of stuff to unpack as this would be a frightening scenario; but plot starts to sag as it tries to search for an ending. I admire most of the productions starring Benedict Cumberbatch but was somewhat disappointed in this one. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/25/24 Full Review Helen E God awful cliche driven dross. Cumberpatch should be ashamed of this one. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/25/24 Full Review Tobias K Normally my knowledge within the thriller-genre is considerably small. But even I feel like this show is falsely promoted as a psychothriller. Right around episode 4 it switches genres and turns into a dark social commentary on what's going wrong in 1980s New York, or society at all. Nonetheless it is heavy on eery atmosphere (often thanks to phenomenal photography) and a showcase for a variety of great actors and actresses. Sometimes the story commits to too many issues at once, but I certainly got used to it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/24/24 Full Review Ken K A waste of time, IMHO. The premise is sketchy, the acting is forced and the dialogue is cliche-ridden. Another variation of the tired old "man with good intentions but with troubled childhood has behavior problems, abuses alcohol, alienates his friends and family but redeems himself in the end" routine. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/23/24 Full Review Jordan W I was shocked to see the audience score for this one! I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was unique and still had elements of the familiar. It was a reminder of human imperfection and the stories of those not often told. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/23/24 Full Review Hector Fabio M La recomiendo a pesar de que en los primeros capítulos va lenta logra engancharte con sus historias aunque considero que desperdiciaron una posible sudtrama con el detective y el dueño de la discoteca Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/22/24 Full Review Read all reviews
