      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Rise of the Pink Ladies isn't quite automatic, systematic, or hydromatic with its catalogue of merely passable songs, but the core cast is plucky enough that nostalgic viewers will want it to tell them more, tell them more.

Audience Member The music, plot, and acting were fantastic! Absolutely devastated this was cancelled so early with so much potential. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/14/24 Full Review Marianne D They deserve nothing less than 5 stars. The team they put together for this is stellar from concept to the rear fender. The writing, the music, the casting, the costumes... it's the best series I've seen in a long time. I honestly didn't think it would be good, but I checked it out because it's Grease. I'll watch anything Grease at least once (even Grease 2). I was not expecting it to be good, let alone THIS GOOD. It's absolutely worth buying the season and pestering other platforms to pick it up. Paramount+ did them dirty by all but erasing it from existence. They canceled it and almost immediately pulled it from the platform. This production could be a goldmine, but the execs are shortsighted. Sellers on etsy are making a killing with their own version of the Pink Ladies and T-Birds jackets. Someone is even selling their interpretation of Nancy's lobster skirt. The merch possibilities are endless. This show is too good to be shelved. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/09/23 Full Review Cristina Q I loved everything about this show. The music is catchy, the dialogue is funny, and the characters are relatable. It's themes are empowering and I can't get enough. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/25/23 Full Review Phox 1 This show is incredibly fun, with an amazing cast and memorable songs as well! As someone who's never actually watched the original Grease before, this show can stand on its own as a wonderful extension of that world. For me the strongest part of this show was the relationship between the four original pink ladies, which can lead the first episode without them together feeling like a bit of a drag. But, if you're questioning whether you should continue, you absolutely should! Each episode only gets better as the series progresses. This show also tackles issues of the time such as misogyny with a great amount of class and nuance, and has some great social commentary even for today. This show deserves better then what Paramount did to it, and I truly hope it can get a new streaming home and another season! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/17/23 Full Review Rayenna S It was a great extension to the original Greases. It was more realistic and gave the Pink Ladies the introduction they needed so badly. The sound track/choreography is amazing, the characters are well developed, and storyline was beautiful. This is coming from someone who doesn't particularly enjoy musicals. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/14/23 Full Review Madeleine S This was the most fun i've had watching a tv show in ages. It definitely deserves to be given a chance. It has complex and diverse characters, great musical numbers and lgbtq+ representation. It explores various issues which did exist in the 50s, such as sexism and racism, while still having a fun, feel-good vibe overall. It has a nostalgic appeal for fans of the original films while it also appeals to a younger audience. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/14/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Carmen Phillips Autostraddle Without any serious consideration to historical specificity and its impact on the lives of Rydell’s students of color, all Pink Ladies does instead is open up an unsatisfying Pandora’s box. Even if it is one shimmering in bright pink glitter. Apr 25, 2023 Full Review Michael Hogan Daily Telegraph (UK) As a drama in its own right, it’s neither automatic, systematic nor hydromatic. If you’re a hopelessly devoted Grease fan, this probably isn’t the one that you want. Rated: 2/5 Apr 7, 2023 Full Review Hugo Rifkind Times (UK) ... It’s really just the story of a few girls deciding to wear matching jackets. Apr 7, 2023 Full Review Rick Bentley KGET-TV (Bakersfield, CA) Weak acting and bad songs make this series a big miss. Rated: D Nov 9, 2023 Full Review Rachel Wagner Rachel's Reviews (YouTube) It took me a bit to get into it but the performances are so good and production values are strong that it really grew on me Jul 14, 2023 Full Review Joey Rambles Cultured Vultures Nobody’s going to deny how good-looking of a show it is, but with forgettable songs, muddled messages, and unconvincing platonic relationships, Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies is terrific style but terrible substance.
