Rachel Cooke New Statesman I can’t lie. On the evidence of what I’ve seen, this series creaks and lists like an old wooden dinghy... But there is one reason to keep watching this drama, and that is Conleth Hill, who plays PJ Collins. Jun 7, 2022 Full Review Louise Rugendyke The Age (Australia) There is value in casting local for shows such as these. It’s in the doughy faces, the sharp lines and air of resignation that comes through. It’s authentic. Rated: 3.5/5 May 13, 2022 Full Review Carol Midgley Times (UK) It would be very easy to make this a dramedy in which many of these people were simple figures of fun, but Dominic Treadwell-Collins and Karen Cogan, who share writing duties, manage to convey real humanity. Rated: 4/5 Mar 21, 2022 Full Review Joel Keller Decider Holding tweaks the small-town murder formula a bit by giving the mystery to a middle-aged, out-of-shape cop who is self-medicating with food... it makes for an enjoyable, lightly comedic mystery. Mar 9, 2023 Full Review Alison Rowat The Herald (Scotland) The affection for small town Ireland is accompanied by a beady eye to its failings, and a willingness to poke fun at comedy “Oirishness”, blarney included. Mar 25, 2022 Full Review Eilis O'Hanlon Sunday Independent (Ireland) The acting was a bit uneven. It felt at times as if everyone was in a different drama, with some playing it for broad laughs, and others with a much straighter bat. But there was no arguing with the all-star cast. Dannielle H The first episode is very average but then the characters & the writing really excelled. Conleath Hill is spectacular & the actress who plays Mrs Meanie is amazing. A must see! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/28/23 Full Review Shirley C As a veteran Britbox and Acorn detective/mystery fan, it took me a couple tries to get in to, but it's because it is so different from the Endeavours, Midsommers, Veras, etc. This is a great little story with twists and humor. I binged it one weekend. So many touching little moments, whether between Linus and Aeife, Brid and her kids, PJ and everyone. Beautiful scenery.I'd be surprised if you didn't love it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/16/23 Full Review Regina M Fabulous from beginning to end. Although another season would be very welcome, this story is a one off and completes itself beautifully. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/17/23 Full Review greg h This show has a lot of twists and turns and, unlike a lot of other shows, kept my attention throughout. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/13/23 Full Review Audience Member A fine example of British Irish Telly. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
