Season 9 – How I Met Your Mother

      2013 Comedy List
75% 20 Reviews Tomatometer 71% 1,000+ Ratings Audience Score Ted has fallen in love. It all started when his best friend, Marshall, drops the bombshell that he plans to propose to longtime girlfriend Lily, a kindergarten teacher. Suddenly, Ted realizes that he had better get a move on if he hopes to find true love. Helping him in the quest is Barney, a friend with endless -- often outrageous -- opinions, a penchant for suits and a foolproof way to meet women. When Ted meets Robin, he is sure it's love at first sight, but the affair fizzles into friendship. Voice-over by Bob Saget ("Full House") tells the story through flashbacks. Critics Consensus

How I Met Your Mother ends not with a bang, not with a whimper, but with an uneven final season that captures the show's best and worst tendencies.

Conrad C Scattered amongst all the unusually over-the-top antics was a few heartfelt moments that were completely ruined by the finale. With How I Met your Mother you come to expect a little suspension of belief, but the characters step past it in a few episodes. If you wade through those, though, the story for this season is very focused and makes some steps in the right direction as far as character development and building the suspense. The payoff for sticking it out is a complete betrayal of the entirety of the show, a finale you wish you could unwatch. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/04/23 Full Review Nick V Came to an end at the right time, Ted was a annoying character which is a shame as his one of the main ones. Lily also hard to watch due to many unforgivable traites. Barnie keeps you watching and is a fun laugh as is Robin Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Brian Moylan Guardian This finale seems to completely sour the show's legacy - something that is not more important than ever. Mar 27, 2018 Full Review Brian Lowry Variety All told, the finale, like the series itself, was fine, if not, alas, legendary. But hey, unlike some of the shows that have come and gone while Ted searched for his dream girl, it certainly beat a slap to the face. Mar 27, 2018 Full Review Liz Shannon Miller indieWire For some, [the] surprise was a disappointment. But disappointment is expecting that a life has only one love story, that happily ever after only happens once, that surprises, good and bad, happen along the way. Mar 27, 2018 Full Review Kaitlin Thomas TV.com "Last Forever" brought up the idea of true love versus soul mates, and a bit about fate, but if I wanted to watch a series about how your soulmate might not be the love of your life, I'd have watched Dawson's Creek, a series which did it much better. Mar 27, 2018 Full Review Vlada Gelman TV Line Lest you think How I Met Your Mother was going to skip over the good parts of Ted and The Mother's relationship, Monday night's episode delivered another milestone in their romance. Mar 27, 2018 Full Review Kevin Fitzpatrick ScreenCrush Fortunately for HIMYM, the time-turning precedent for the season only strengthens such a radical episode's premise.
