Depraved underachieving might look easy, but for the egocentric Mac, Charlie, Dennis, Frank and Dee, it's an art form. "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" follows "The Gang," the owners of the unsuccessful Paddy's Pub; a group of degenerates who loves nothing more than to scheme, conspire, and mostly revel in each other's misery. Whether gaming the welfare system, exploiting dumpster babies, pretending to be crippled, impersonating officers, or faking funerals, The Gang never stoops too low in the name of making a buck.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Always Sunny's provocative humor has lost some bite, but the patrons of Paddy's Pub ought to be pleased by the Gang's inability to cope with modernity -- and each other.

Scaachi Koul BuzzFeed News It's Always Sunny is still a fine example of a show that grows with its audience instead of becoming more hostile, that learns its lesson without taking away from the brutality that made it great. Oct 19, 2020 Full Review Hannah Strong BBC.com The jokes still range from pleasingly juvenile to bafflingly surreal, and the tone seems as sardonic as it ever was, but there's some warmth too -- and after 14 years, It's Always Sunny has earned it, as well as a place in the comedy Hall of Fame. Oct 19, 2020 Full Review Ben Travers IndieWire Greatness is part of it's very weird DNA. Oct 10, 2019 Full Review Huw Saunders Cultured Vultures In looking for signs that a work's gotten old, moaning about "kids these days" is something of a smoking gun. Oct 19, 2020 Full Review Steven Redgrave Pop Culture Leftovers The newest season has charm, chaos, and controversy, all mixed with a particular brand of humor that has kept this series running strong since 2005. Feb 3, 2020 Full Review Kevin Yeoman Screen Rant The season 14 premiere of FXX's long-running comedy shows that even though the series is well into its old age (in TV years), the gang still has what it takes to make some of the best cringe-worthy comedy on any platform. dave d The funny moments are more and more sparse. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/10/25 Full Review Regal R 55/100 - The show slowly declines around Season 12. They change some characters and make the relationship dynamic odd. It just doesnt work anymore. Also they keep making Dennis creepier and it gets really weird, like truly bizarre. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/19/24 Full Review Bec B All the episodes are so funny and well-written. The gang chokes is my favourite from this season. But all the episodes are top notch. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/03/23 Full Review Corey W Through 14 seasons It's Always Sunny is always good for some twisted laughs involving some vile people. Not every episode is a gem, and some have aged quite poorly, but within the 150+ episodes there are several dozen that exemplify the show's strength as an inversion of the classic sitcom. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Terri F Consistently the best show on tv! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/15/22 Full Review Audience Member Another somewhat meh season. It's Always Sunny is still a great show, but they've hit a bit of a creative slump. I attribute this in large part to the increase in political and social commentary they have introduced in recent seasons. I generally favor this move, my main concern is that it's harming the writer's creativity. In short, they're getting so focused on the message that they're losing focus on the delivery that has set the show apart for the past 14 years. I think they've shown that they're capable of nuanced commentary without losing steam (they did a good job in Season 12), they just need to take a step back and refocus.
