Jane Villanueva, the daughter of a teen mother, grew up determined not to repeat her mom's mistakes. Jane is studying to be a teacher, and she is engaged to a handsome detective who supports her decision to remain a virgin until marriage, but a routine visit to the clinic turns her life upside down. Inseminated by a specimen meant for a patient in the next room, Jane is in a situation made only more insane when she learns that the sperm donor is her boss, Rafael. Judy Berman TIME Magazine Another rom-com-adjacent gem from the CW’s mid-2010s renaissance... Feb 13, 2023 Full Review Heather Hogan Autostraddle For a show that delights in the absurd, Petra and JR's love story felt as authentic as any I've ever seen on TV. Oct 27, 2021 Full Review Mallika Khanna Bitch Media It's a show that reminds us that resistance onscreen can just be giving space to characters who aren't normally visible, and writing them with both technical brilliance and empathy. Einat H This is my favorite series of all time!! Have i ever lost my self so much in a serie before ❤️😍🙏🏻🥺 i have been crying, laughing in every episoder and I Love every charachter ❤️ i cant beileve its iver now i seen The last episode 😟😳 Please keep it alive and do moore Please ❤️🙏🏻🥺❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 much Love from sweden Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I caught up with this very late, and have binge watched the whole 5 series over several weeks. Everything worth saying about it has probably already been said, but I found part of its appeal was the format - the narrator explanations, the way the stories evolved, the wackiness of the story lines - all reminded me of that almost forgotten classic from the late 1970s, namely Soap, and prompted me to re-watch that for the first time in about 40 years. A good question in a film studies examination would be - "Compare and contrast Jane the Virgin with Soap, with reference to changing social norms on class, race, ethnicity, gender and sexuality". I dropped the score by half of one point because Jane herself was starting to irritate me by series 5, as she was so bloody superior, dictatorial and indecisive. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Great - as usual! Sad to see it end, but a well-done series ending season. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
