What to Know

Critics Consensus

Providing James Corden with a surlier role that he inhabits convincingly, Mammals is an intriguing enough study of monogamy that unfortunately proves too trying a commitment before getting to the point.

Guy Lodge Sight & Sound Though it may be tonally wayward, this streaming series is largely an easy, attractive diversion, sharpened by the ruder impulses of Butterworth’s writing and Corden’s prickly performance. Dec 7, 2022 Full Review Martin Robinson London Evening Standard A mostly effective comedy-drama which delights in pulling the rug out from under viewers. Rated: 4/5 Dec 5, 2022 Full Review Melanie McFarland Salon.com For me the show's beating heart is something that goes unnamed -- and for artistic reasons that's for the better -- across all six languidly beautiful and methodically brutal episodes. Nov 21, 2022 Full Review Lex Briscuso The Playlist While the writing is strong, it doesn’t make up for how tired shows and movies about complicated marriages are. Rated: C Jan 6, 2023 Full Review Jennifer Bisset CNET Mammals is more complex than on first glance, and the same could be said of Corden's dependable performance. Dec 7, 2022 Full Review Ralph Jones NME (New Musical Express) James Corden might be a muppet, but he makes great TV. Rated: 4/5 Dec 7, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

Stan S Certainly very engaging. It draws you in quickly and you want to find out what is happening with the characters. After the reveal in the final episode of season 1, however, I was very disappointed. The show engenders real murder-mystery style intrigue. The problem is that Cordon's character would never have acted the way he did up to that point in real life, had he done the things he did. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/03/23 Full Review Julie G I really got pulled into the story early on. I wanted to love it but felt confused and disappointed at the end. It left me with so many unanswered questions. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/03/23 Full Review OrisaIfa O I think that the chemistry between Colin Morgan and James Corden is spot on for this type of dry comedic drama. People give James Corden a hard time about his gigs, but you cannot deny that he is a very talented actor/performer. Colin Morgan matches Corden's chops. The show offers an interesting view of the potentials of human behavior in today's over-the-top complex world. I hope there will be a Season 2! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/01/23 Full Review Tony G Superb! Twists and turns, pathos, other ace things I can't think of at the mo, and who would've thought I'd appreciate James Corden's acting! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/21/23 Full Review Morgan M Not enough flesh around its bones but solid nonetheless - intriguing enough so you binge it to see where it all goes. Great music. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/18/22 Full Review samuel n Well....I was spellbound. I think James Corden and Sally Hawkins turned in their usual fine acting. The plot and script had me on the edge of my seat. Melia Kreiling is utterly exquisite, and I think she acted her part very well, although I was almost certainly too smitten by her beauty to judge her acting. However, I did find the ending off-putting. It seemed to leave so much hanging, unresolved, and puzzling. I guess I shall have to watch it again to decipher episode 6, or perhaps there will be another season. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews
