Based on the crime-novel series by author Caroline Graham, "Midsomer Murders" follows the efforts of Detective Chief Inspector John Barnaby to solve crimes that occur in the wealthy, isolated English county of Midsomer, a picturesque and peaceful place on the outside but one filled with amoral and snobbish eccentrics with all kinds of vices. His latest assistant is Detective Sergeant Jamie Winter. DCI Barnaby took over in series 14, replacing his older cousin, Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby, who retired.

Ray Richmond Variety Blessed with exceptional performances from top to bottom, the smart "Killings at Badgers Drift" is a tour de force for John Nettles. Mar 27, 2019 Full Review Emma Brockes Guardian Watching Midsomer Murders is like finding an old copy of News of the World lying around in a Home Counties pub: all tarts and vicars and incest. It's amazing. Mar 27, 2019 Full Review Gabriel Tate Daily Telegraph (UK) Perhaps it's time for DCI Barnaby retired to his writing hut as well. Rated: 2/5 Mar 11, 2019 Full Review Marco Lanzagorta PopMatters It would not be an exaggeration to say that Midsomer Murders is one of the best detective television shows in the history of the medium. Dayle R I look forward every week for this show. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/03/24 Full Review Audience Member It really bothers me that no one moves out of the way even when they see something that will hurt them coming their way. I know that sometimes it would take away from the story, but at least a few times people should be shown as being able to stand aside. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Midsomer Murders has consistently been one of the most intelligent and highly entertaining police mystery series ever created. It's taken the understated English humour and prized eccentricity, and mined it for all its worth. The settings, the bucolic English countryside and the ancient characterful villages with their pubs, their churches, their thatched cottages and grand houses, and their half-crazed inhabitants rich and poor all add immeasurably. There's the unending stream of local corpses strewn over the manicured lawns or abandoned in some golden woodland presenting a grizzly and delightful contrast to all that niceness, the wonder being how populated these villages seem to remain. Then there's the always dependable John Nettles (Neil Dudgeon since 2011) as Inspector Barnaby (a "normal" policeman for a change with a happy marriage and no demons) and his fellow cast, Jason Hughes, Jane Wymark, Barry Jackson and the continuous parade of the best of English, Scottish and Irish character actors, all of whom must have so much fun playing their little part in this very the best of UK television. Oh, and I mustn't forget the theme and background music written by the very talented and prolific Jim Parker, clever and always appropriate, another vital part of the greater whole. Yes, a series that's so long, one could watch from Episode 1, Series 1, and continue to Episode 6 of Series 22, then go back to Episode 1, Series 1 and watch them all again! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member There's a quaint charm to this Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
