Based on the crime-novel series by author Caroline Graham, "Midsomer Murders" follows the efforts of Detective Chief Inspector John Barnaby to solve crimes that occur in the wealthy, isolated English county of Midsomer, a picturesque and peaceful place on the outside but one filled with amoral and snobbish eccentrics with all kinds of vices. His latest assistant is Detective Sergeant Jamie Winter. DCI Barnaby took over in series 14, replacing his older cousin, Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby, who retired.

Mark Lawson Guardian Now that the row has opened eyes to this issue, it's difficult to watch Midsomer innocently. Mar 27, 2019 Full Review Andrew Pettie Daily Telegraph (UK) Midsomer brings to life - and gently mocks - an idea of England and Englishness that probably hasn't existed in this country for decades, but which lives on in the popular imagination, especially overseas. Mar 27, 2019 Full Review Ben Hewitt Guardian Midsomer Murders without Nettles was always going to be a hard sell, but you suspect Barnaby MK II's snippiness would chafe less if his mere existence weren't so laughably serendipitous. Mar 27, 2019 Full Review Jane Rackham Radio Times Here's a murder mystery for twitchers and balletomanes alike as it's loosely based on the story of Swan Lake and all the suspects belong to the Midsomer-in-the-Marsh Ornithological Society. Mar 27, 2019 Full Review Scotsman Staff Scotsman Can Dame Judi Dench or Sir Ian McKellen do that? Well, yes, probably, but surely this is exactly what actors go to Rada for, and Petrie's performance was a triumph. Never let it be said Midsomer is easy money.
