Based on the crime-novel series by author Caroline Graham, "Midsomer Murders" follows the efforts of Detective Chief Inspector John Barnaby to solve crimes that occur in the wealthy, isolated English county of Midsomer, a picturesque and peaceful place on the outside but one filled with amoral and snobbish eccentrics with all kinds of vices. His latest assistant is Detective Sergeant Jamie Winter. DCI Barnaby took over in series 14, replacing his older cousin, Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby, who retired.

Audience Member It doesn't ask a lot of you as a viewer but the stories are entertaining even if you wouldn't want to live anywhere near the fictional town of Midsomer given the homicide rate. The series has survived a change in the lead character and a couple of the supporting Sergeants role but it's charming in a uniquely British way and 2022 will mark the 23rd season although the previous 22 have only produced 132 episodes in total.
