As Amazon's "Mozart in the Jungle" opens, Maestro Thomas takes his final bow with the New York Symphony. Applause dies down, and the orchestra's chairwoman introduces a new conductor -- young, flamboyant, talented Rodrigo, who strides onto the stage, bows and turns his baton into a rose! Conflict begins for the badly behaved genius and his stodgy predecessor, now music director emeritus. Rodrigo promises change when he icily reviews Thomas' last concert, and it starts with auditions that alter life for a female oboist scrambling for gigs.

J. Kelly Nestruck Globe and Mail It does the best job I've ever seen at seriously (but never overly soberly) examining the question of sex and romance in an artistic workplace where passion must be expressed. Jan 7, 2019 Full Review Liz Shannon Miller IndieWire There are plenty of interesting developments, as the series continues to further develop its eclectic ensemble, once centralized around a New York City symphony but now spread out to pursue a number of different pursuits. Feb 27, 2018 Full Review Danette Chavez AV Club With a manageable episode count, delightful cast, and harmonious fusion of comedy and drama, Mozart In The Jungle is tailor-made for quick and copious consumption. Rated: B+ Feb 17, 2018 Full Review Alci Rengifo Entertainment Voice At its best, this show remains a classy good time. Aug 28, 2018 Full Review Rachael Vaughan Clemmons Metro It's still cute and funny enough -- and perfect for the kind of bingeing where you're only intermittently paying attention to what's going on. Feb 21, 2018 Full Review Yohana Desta Vanity Fair Like any good orchestra, Mozart is bubbling with smart players who swell into a symphony of something greater. Go ahead and give it a listen. Sharang L Another strong season - unfortunately the last. Wish Amazon would revive this one. Garcia Bernal's Rodrigo is now one of my all-time top 10 TV characters. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/25 Full Review Xena S This review is for the entire series, not any particular season. It was a life-changing experience for me. This show is a place where profound ideas and creative impulse are in perfect harmony. This is a story you keep on coming back to even when you know it like the back of your hand. It can be intense and overwhelming, exhilaratingly artistic and visually stunning, or just funny and mischievous and you can't get enough of it. But some scenes are simply perfect and perfect in their simplicity - not pivotal or emotionally charged moments, but moments full of ethereal quality that bypass the consciousness and connect you to the very core. You rewatch them not because they excite you, but because you want to sink in, to be surrounded by "it". And frankly, Gael Garcia Bernal's acting is one of those ethereal experiences - this actor can act with his face alone, he needs no words or gestures to glue the audience to the screen. It took me a year to recover form this series, particularly bearing in mind that it was scrapped midway, without closure. I kept on rewinding and revisiting. I cannot hope to experience something like this again. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/01/23 Full Review Iga S I loved it! Whoever at Amazon decided to cancel it, is a piece of uncultured sh*t without empathy or a sense of humour. Honestly, one of the most original, genuinely warm, funny, sexy and passionate about music shows I've seen. I hope someone will pick it up to give the fans a proper ending. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/29/22 Full Review tom m I enjoyed it. All around pretty good stuff. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Why did they cancel the show? I was hooked since season one and always looked forward for these episodes. It was funny, entertaining and it made me see at classical musical in a different way. Plus all the actors were amazing! This show has big ratings and great critics, I really don't understand how Amazon could let this get cancel. Such a shame. Mozart in the Jungle A+, Amazon F for canceling it! Im so disappointed at Amazon. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the best shows on television! Amazon needs to bring it back for one more season and conclude this wonderful series with season 5. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
