After going through a rough breakup, awkward and upbeat Jess (Zooey Deschanel) moves in with three single guys. Intelligent and witty Nick is an underachiever who took the bartender off-ramp on his road to success. Schmidt obsesses over his social standing and looks at Jess as a personal project. Winston is a competitive former athlete who, after realizing he will never become a pro, moves into the loft. Together with Jess' best friend, Cece, they bond to form an unlikely, and dysfunctional, family.

Stephens AV Club New Girl has earned my trust: I fully expect the cast and crew to make the eight episodes of this shortened final season a tumult of misunderstandings, fumbles, and wacky mishaps suffused with the antic joy and love that has fueled the show. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/27/23 Full Review Affleberry F One of the most criminally underrated shows of all time. There isn't a bad character, or a bad episode, in the whole series. I would strongly recommend this to anyone with a sense of humor & a desire to laugh...a lot. That being said, I've seen many people criticize this last partial season, & while I do understand some of those issues, I am still grateful for it. You see, the cast & crew weren't sure if Ssn6 was going to be the last, so Liz Merryweather (creator of New Girl) made the Ssn6 ending almost work as a series ending. So when they all found out that Fox was going to cancel it, the whole cast & crew wrote a letter to the executives asking them to allow one more season so that they could give the fans a real sendoff. After that Fox gave them the greenlight for a shortened season. I personally think the show could've gone on for several more seasons, at least. Regardless, I was extremely grateful & appreciative that the cast & crew cared that much about the fans to do what they did. Also, although the last "season" (7epispde Ssn7) did feel a bit different, it holds a special place in my heart, as does the whole series.
