What to Know

Critics Consensus

Next of Kin brings a fresh perspective to thriller television -- with Archie Panjabi compellingly negotiating an increasingly twisty familial mystery -- although some of the complex and culturally sensitive issues at play may have been served by a more cerebral series.

Ed Cumming Daily Telegraph (UK) There was plenty to enjoy, especially Punjabi's performance in the lead. Rated: 3/5 Apr 15, 2019 Full Review Lucy Mangan Guardian It was, if nothing else, refreshing to see a Muslim family portrayed so naturally. Apr 15, 2019 Full Review Deborah Ross The Mail on Sunday (UK) I've run out of space for Next Of Kin. Rated: 2/5 Jul 10, 2018 Full Review Eleanor Bley Griffiths Radio Times The opener leaves you frustrated and only vaguely wondering what happens next - and for a "thriller" that's a problem. Apr 15, 2019 Full Review Daisy Wyatt iNews.co.uk This is a gritty tale of the dark tensions at play in the world today. With its central focus on Kareem's family, the stakes are clear, the narrative is easy to follow and the characters are relatable. Jan 26, 2019 Full Review James Walton The Spectator Yet, Next of Kin shows every sign not merely of shaping it into a proper thriller, but also of allowing it to emerge from a thoroughly imagined family story, rather than imposing it on one. Jeff S Well acted..plot has some weird holes but overall pretty Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/21/24 Full Review James R Dumb nonsensical plot. Here's an example...she gets rescued from the hideout of terrorists who at that very moment are actively carrying out a huge terrorist raid on London. Keep in mind she's the only person available who's even talked to the terrorists...and so what's the police's next move? They let her go to her kid's soccer game! Here's another, bad guy terrorist has a knife to the throat of the lady's nephew. Keep in mind he only has a knife, and he's surrounded by a dozen secret service guys. Next move? Let's shoot them both! At close range! I know streaming services have to keep coming up with new material, but can you at least hire a 7th grader or such to vet some of these dopey plots? Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/26/24 Full Review Lisa H Had hoped for better since I like the actors. The plot is ridiculous. How an intelligent doctor could make so many stupid decisions is unbelievable. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/23/23 Full Review Durant P Full of non sens, stereotype, an realistic characters and poor acting . Avoid it. The Dr recovers from fun shoot in minutes. She stupidly use her husband computer to transfer money while being watched and it goes on all along the painful 6 episodes. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/08/22 Full Review Audience Member I watched the series and I actually really enjoyed it.. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
