This often campy series centers on the office of Dr. Sean McNamara and Dr. Christian Troy, longtime friends who practice surgery (and live life) in two entirely different ways. Christian is the stereotypical self-destructive playboy. Sean is the family man facing a moral crossroads, as well as a failed marriage to Julia. Sounds grim, but a healthy dose of dark humor keeps things humming and contributes to the show's appeal with both viewers and critics. But be warned -- the depictions of surgery on this series are a tad graphic.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Nip/Tuck continues to inject outrageous fun on the airwaves with its combination of sweet and sour gags, but the series is beginning to show some wrinkles and is in need of a narrative facelift.

Joanne Ostrow Denver Post Nip/Tuck lives to shock. As in seasons past, the series challenges our intestinal fortitude and tries our patience. It's best in the quiet moments when it stops trying to outdo itself. Nov 14, 2018 Full Review Melanie McFarland Seattle Post-Intelligencer Nip/Tuck is aiming for profundity again, as far as that goes. At one point the series catch phrase said something about being more than skin deep, but I'm not sure the scalpel even scratches the fatty layer anymore. Nov 14, 2018 Full Review Maureen Ryan Chicago Tribune That sense of saucy transgression married to surprisingly effective character development -- the magic formula of the first two seasons -- is a bit wobbly this year, but Nip/Tuck is more or less back on track. Nov 14, 2018 Full Review Christopher Monfette IGN Movies Quite possibly the most absurd, sexy, dirty, melodramatic, out-there, self-aware-but-played-for-straight drama currently airing on television today. Nov 13, 2018 Full Review Seth Freilich Pajiba I still can't quite express my feelings for this season, but suffice it to say that it feels like it's gotten too gory and over-the-top solely for the sake of being gory and over-the-top and it's lost some underlying element it had the first two seasons. May 25, 2018 Full Review Todd R. Ramlow PopMatters In typical nip/tuck shock/schlock fashion, Season Four began with a bang. Rated: 7/10 Sep 12, 2006 Full Review Read all reviews
