This Steven Bochco-produced series pulls few punches in portraying the day-to-day lives of cops in New York's 15th Precinct. Characters' personal lives intertwine with the cases they work, which often deal with the worst elements the city has to offer. Many characters came and went during the show's 12-season run but one constant throughout the series was Det. Andy Sipowicz, portrayed by Dennis Franz.

Anita Gates New York Times It would be a shame for loyal fans to wander away now. The character development of Sipowicz, whose ex-wife was shot to death last season, may be the most dramatic change in store. But it's only one of the show's current assets. Aug 17, 2018 Full Review John Leonard New York Magazine/Vulture The biggest news about NYPD Blue is that its very first hour of the new millennium actually deplores police brutality... For this about-face, thank you. Aug 15, 2018 Full Review Howard Rosenberg Los Angeles Times NYPD Blue remains so many miles above most of prime time that it's in another Zip Code. Its texture is as nubby as ever, and the city's grimy streets still run through its squad room like a five-lane highway. Aug 15, 2018 Full Review David Zurawik Baltimore Sun I forgot how great this series is when it's on its game, and NYPD Blue is definitely on its game. Aug 15, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

Leilani Y Incredibly corny and hammed up lingering stretches of sordid personal relationship dialog. I almost hope Jill gets shot and Diane becomes a nun who drinks.Music conspires to be sickening Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 05/21/23 Full Review dave d The slightest of backward steps. The last truly great year of the show. Just thinking about this cast will make you tingle compared with what is to come. Dennis Franz is a marvel. He can play any emotion at any time. Every episode of every season is worth watching just for him and his evolution as Andrew Sipowicz. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member The worst season of an otherwise fantastic show, I disliked the Sorenson character, although he was worse in the succeeding season, but I absolutely hated the Kirkendall character and her arc.
