This Steven Bochco-produced series pulls few punches in portraying the day-to-day lives of cops in New York's 15th Precinct. Characters' personal lives intertwine with the cases they work, which often deal with the worst elements the city has to offer. Many characters came and went during the show's 12-season run but one constant throughout the series was Det. Andy Sipowicz, portrayed by Dennis Franz.

Julie Salamon New York Times Lately it's seemed that more and more of N.Y.P.D. Blue has been unfolding in the interrogation room, as the series has struggled to create new, compelling relationships. The ethos seems to be: when in doubt, smack a skel. Aug 17, 2018 Full Review Mark Lawson Guardian Series 8 of NYPD Blue suggests that the Manhattan station house is surviving well both the competition from its many imitators and the loss of leading cast members. Aug 15, 2018 Full Review Ken Tucker Entertainment Weekly There's still enjoyment to be gleaned from Blue - the crime-scene segments are still top-notch, and Schroder just keeps getting better. But... the pace is way too slow. Speed it up, you mopes. Rated: B Aug 15, 2018 Full Review Barbara Vancheri Pittsburgh Post-Gazette The cop drama is no ground-breaker... but its service record is stellar. Aug 17, 2018 Full Review David Zurawik Baltimore Sun I have to admit there is not one new note played... It looks to me like the beginning of the end for a once-great series. dave d The whole character of Danny Sorenson never got to where it could have been in large part because the show kept spinning wheels. Rick Schroder was incredible and the cast is still solid, but it's hard seeing old friends leave one by one and it's ever harder when the shoes are so big of those departing. If you have lasted this long with NYPD Blue then you're here because of Dennis Franz. His ability to carry this show when times look bleak is proof to me he's one of the best actors who has ever lived. This character is one of the finest in TV history.
