This Steven Bochco-produced series pulls few punches in portraying the day-to-day lives of cops in New York's 15th Precinct. Characters' personal lives intertwine with the cases they work, which often deal with the worst elements the city has to offer. Many characters came and went during the show's 12-season run but one constant throughout the series was Det. Andy Sipowicz, portrayed by Dennis Franz.

Martin Chilton Daily Telegraph (UK) Bochco once said that successful TV "always comes down to characters" and in NYPD Blue they were made to last. Aug 17, 2018 Full Review Austin Smith New York Post It was a classy ending - no dreams, surprise tragedies or gimmicks of any kind-just a perfect and touching way to conclude one of TV's best shows. Aug 17, 2018 Full Review Josh Wolk New York Magazine/Vulture NYPD Blue stumbled in its old age... Andy became more cuddly. Yes, this was the logical endpoint to his trajectory, but there was still something painful about watching him setting up shop with his little boy. Aug 17, 2018 Full Review Sierra Filucci Common Sense Media The show's decidedly mature language, nudity, violence, and issues are all good reasons for kids to stay away, but adults will definitely enjoy Blue's edgy, dense drama. dave d You'll have to look far and wide before you find a show that had a better central character than Andy Sipowicz on NYPD Blue. Through all the cast changes and behind the scenes drama there was Dennis Franz steady through it all. David Milch and Steven Bochco found a slice of heaven in ever episode. It's a show that revolutionized camera work and the cop-drama. The magic of Blue is and was a once in a lifetime experience for so many. I found myself crying in spots that I just didn't expect. Bill Clark deserves so much credit for making this real and spectacular.
