What to Know

Critics Consensus

Krysten Ritter and Amanda Fix bring enough distinction to ensure this new Orphan Black isn't just a clone of the original, but the latest mystery is only a faint reverb of what came before.

Creator, writer, and executive producer Anna Fishko, who also serves as the series showrunner, has captured some of the mystery and the intrigue of the original series, even if this story is more straightforward. Go to Full Review

You can cast wonderful actors without giving them quite enough to do. That's the big mistake "Orphan Black: Echoes" makes here. Go to Full Review

Orphan Black: Echoes is similar enough to Orphan Black to give me nostalgic feelings, and different enough to be engaging and interesting. Like Lucy and Jules, it’s not an exact copy of the original. Go to Full Review

This series moves a bit slower than its predecessor; it bears more resemblance to many of the lackluster "puzzle box" shows that proliferated in the original's wake. Go to Full Review

It’s a lame iteration of the original series, and for reasons that make no sense, someone involved in the cloning of the earlier series is also involved here, having learned nothing from those earlier experiences. Go to Full Review

There is certainly room for this story to grow in subsequent seasons, but I anticipate fans of the original will be divided over this new chapter in the Orphan Black universe. Go to Full Review

Michael B @Michael709 Dec 18 I can't express how utterly disappointed I was after loving the original. I don't have any particular issues with the production or the acting, but the writing is so unbelievably lazy. The showrunner must have cut every corner. The characters constantly prove they're dumber than the audience. The immediate plot holes in the form of glossed-over HIPAA violations, unprepared assassins and unrealistic conversations all points to a disjointed writing team and a failure on every level to assemble a suspenseful story arc. I just couldn't keep it on after half an hour screaming at absurdity after absurdity. See more Pebbles C Nov 30 Starting the first episode off with lots of sign language and Spanish isn't a good start for a bored American audience. See more Maude L Nov 30 I *loved* the original. I'm struggling to make it past the first episode of "Echoes". It truly is an echo of its past. See more Christine H Nov 25 First I want to say it this show is an insult to the original Orphan Black series. The acting and the writing were excellent. This version (can't call it a sequel) especially the story lacks zero tension, zero mystery and I have no compassion for any of the one-dimensional characters. The flashbacks are redundant because the writers already told us what's going on... we aren't stupid! References to Auntie Cosima, an appearance by Uncle Felix with the exact same bar scene it's just sooooo sad. Ripping off the music from the original is also an insult. I can't believe anyone thought this might have any entertainment value at all. WATCH THE ORIGINAL, don't bother with this thing. See more Nadia S Feb 25 Really wanted to like it but it's too convoluted and the star just wasn't strong enough as the lead. Very glad it wasn't renewed, would have been a damning indictment about the state of TV and creativity if it was. See more Tony Z 09/22/2024 I nearly stopped watching because of the slow start, but I'm glad I stayed. It's a very different kind of show than OB; not near as much mystery and suspense, but the three Eleanors at different ages was deeply interesting as was the theme of bringing back the dead. This is one of those shows that might have become brilliant in a second season, if allowed. Oh well. See more Read all reviews
