What to Know

Critics Consensus

Krysten Ritter and Amanda Fix bring enough distinction to ensure this new Orphan Black isn't just a clone of the original, but the latest mystery is only a faint reverb of what came before.

David Bianculli NPR You can cast wonderful actors without giving them quite enough to do. That's the big mistake "Orphan Black: Echoes" makes here. Jul 25, 2024 Full Review Valerie Anne Autostraddle Orphan Black: Echoes is similar enough to Orphan Black to give me nostalgic feelings, and different enough to be engaging and interesting. Like Lucy and Jules, it’s not an exact copy of the original. Jun 25, 2024 Full Review Margaret Lyons New York Times “Echoes” is an apt title; the shows are similar, but this one is fainter and less original. Jun 25, 2024 Full Review Marty Brown Common Sense Media This series moves a bit slower than its predecessor; it bears more resemblance to many of the lackluster "puzzle box" shows that proliferated in the original's wake. Jul 22, 2024 Full Review Dustin Rowles Pajiba It’s a lame iteration of the original series, and for reasons that make no sense, someone involved in the cloning of the earlier series is also involved here, having learned nothing from those earlier experiences. Jul 12, 2024 Full Review Alex Maidy JoBlo's Movie Network There is certainly room for this story to grow in subsequent seasons, but I anticipate fans of the original will be divided over this new chapter in the Orphan Black universe. Tony Z I nearly stopped watching because of the slow start, but I'm glad I stayed. It's a very different kind of show than OB; not near as much mystery and suspense, but the three Eleanors at different ages was deeply interesting as was the theme of bringing back the dead. This is one of those shows that might have become brilliant in a second season, if allowed. Oh well. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/22/24 Full Review Joe C While the show may have a bit of a slow start, it ticks all my boxes for being an enjoyable show. I absolutely loved this show and am devastated to hear it's already been cancelled, especially after that cliffhanger. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/20/24 Full Review L k I wanted so badly to like it and would have even given it first season forbearance. But.... This was badly written fanfic that didn't stay true to any character at all. 1. Cloning people seems possible scientifically. So does 3d printing organs. 3D printing entire people with all their memories due to brain scan use? No. 2. Kira lost her psychic connection. Her super cells weren't even sought after which would have made this more interesting. 3. Delphine and Felix not activating the Kira is behaving like a monster beacon after learning not only did she 3D print her dead wife, she did it AGAIN and lied to her. AND lied to her kid about his mother being alive. 4. 'Don't tell mom'? This isn't skipping school or stealing things at a store it's literally terrifying behavior. Josh showed far more empathy and emotion than Kira (who seems to be a sociopath). Watching him kill himself was brutal - he was the first character part of this nightmare venture to show actual feelings for what was being done. There were many wonderful things to do with the older Kira and none of them were here. The worst part - even worse than ruining Felix and Delphine was the use of the music from OB in the 'learning something horrible ' scenes. I heard the music and it flashed me back to the OB scenes that used it and It made the comparison so much more extreme. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 09/03/24 Full Review joseph p Drags and dialog is dopey. Characters act like they’re concerned for morality and humanity then sleepwalk through the situation with no impetus to actually stop anything. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/27/24 Full Review Sofía F I am completely in love with this world. The central dilemma of whether to "bring back" from the death someone you lost is such an important topic for everyone but specially for those of us who have been through various grieving processes and often wonder what would I do if I had the chance. I think you need to give it a chance to let it win you over because I don't see people falling in love with it right away, maybe by episode two or three. I won't spoil the finale but I just saw it and it blew my mind, how willing the creators are to go for it. The characters are amazing and unique also great performers. They really built an incredible world and I can't wait for a season 2. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/26/24 Full Review Moni K Give this show a chance. It is a strong show, string cast. They did excellent on the versions of Lucy. I hope we get more of this cast and this show. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/11/24 Full Review Read all reviews
