In 1960s New York laws prohibit all kinds of immoral behavior, yet corruption reigns, and gambling and prostitution are as old as the city itself. Indeed, even cops in the Public Morals Division often look the other way when investigating vice crimes, themselves tempted by similar sins. Not Officer Terry Muldoon, who is determined to protect his own Hell's Kitchen neighborhood that's being devoured by an Irish Mob war. As his wife, Christine, demands that they leave the city for a safer home to raise their kids, Muldoon and partner Charlie Bullman -- the muscle of the Public Morals Division -- fight back against the city's dark underbelly. Edward Burns ("Saving Private Ryan") writes, directs, executive produces and stars as Muldoon in the police drama.

Anne Easton Observer It took a while for him to find it, but Ed Burns has finally settled into the right era. His latest project has sent him to the '60s, a decade that seems perfect for him. Aug 26, 2015 Full Review Mary McNamara Los Angeles Times Public Morals... is a picaresque, briskly written and quickly captivating series that is neither afraid nor ashamed of entertaining its audience. Aug 26, 2015 Full Review Ray Rahman Entertainment Weekly Gloss aside, Morals can be impressive in its slow-burn storytelling, and scenes are often visually stunning. Rated: B Aug 26, 2015 Full Review Julia Felsenthal Vogue The show gets its energy from its wonderful character actors: the wheezy-voiced, fast-talking Burns, who gives the no-bullshit Muldoon a sense of cheerful relatability... Michael Rapaport as the mushy-hearted veteran detective Charlie Bullman. Mar 7, 2017 Full Review Emily Ashby Common Sense Media This drama series doesn't break any new ground in the heavily populated crime-drama genre, but it does put some appealing new faces out there for fans. Rated: 3/5 Aug 28, 2015 Full Review Brad Oswald Winnipeg Free Press The heist is bold and stylish. The investigation is dogged and determined. Based on those two factors alone, the Brit-import miniseries The Great Train Robbery has the makings of a ripping-good TV yarn. And it doesn't disappoint. andrei d Nu are nici o idee noua Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member The gangster noir genre is always tricky. Because there is never any good cops vs bad guys. It's always Bad people vs Not so Bad people and Public Morals does an excellent job of utilizing the current Anti-hero appreciation wave. The characters are complex and simple at the same time and the pacing of the show makes sure you never truly have an idea about what's going to happen next. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Great show, excellent acting from all members of the cast & well written scripts. I can't wait for the next season to start Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member this is the best new show on TV this FALL Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member A character actors heaven esp for weirdo types incl the always great freakie fella (yes a hero to me) the usually wonderfully uncomfortable seeming Kevin Corrigan, goofy freak Michael Rappaport, creepy creep Neal McDonough (Justified) , old familiar Brian Deheny and many others...even the main character Edward Burns is often more of the characet type (even if he wishes otherwise, heee heee)...acting aside, the scenery itself and style are also the show here...so if youre looking for grounbreaking amazingly gripping story, this isnt the place....nonetheless its a stand out unique crime show that falls somewhere between Boardwalk Empire and the sort of detective shows (pocedureals?) I personally dont match watch...set in the 60s it has a sort of medley style that at times feels closer to period 40s or older but others late 60s hip swinging times...the music accentuates this unique feel....i also like the mix of Italian and Irish stereptypes with more... Anyway its a worthwhile more than watchable show that surely all of us have looked at much morse...not a life changer nor brain bender, but plenty good...the cast, direction, atmosphere, etc make up for adequate but straight forward scripting....its enough to hope they keep making it just to see what guest actors might surface... Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Premise is a little silly. Every cop is corrupt. Somewhat possible for the day. They all hang in bars shoulder to shoulder with hardened criminals. this rarely happened. Complex characters upholding the law, while breaking it, yet presented in a simplistic manner. Streetwalker hookers/b-girls made up and dressed like Upper East Side call girls. I preferred the more believable original Muldoon : There's a holdup in the Bronx. Brooklyn's broken out in fight. There's a traffic jam in Harlem, That's backed up to Jackson Heights. A scout troop's lost a child. Khrushchev's due at Idlewild! Car 54, where are you!
