      Critics Consensus

Respectful and thorough in giving voice to the collateral damage of an entertainment empire that was only kid-friendly on the surface, Quiet on Set is a vital showbiz exposé.

Joe J A dark an harrowing documentary of the horrors that went on behind the scenes during the 90s and 00s at Nickelodeon. Yes some of this stuff is well documented but it did put eyes on the matter that weren't necessarily looking at it before. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/25/24 Full Review Ricarda W It was ok but it didn't address the whole problem. Since the beginning of cinema and TV shows children have been abused and taken advantage of. There have been well documented cases since silent film. The problem is the entire industry. Parents that offer their children up as sacrifices for their own financial gain. Children being introduced to adult situations well before their brains are developed enough to handle them. Predators that flock to environments where they know children are vulnerable. And the executives that look the other way so they can get rich. In my opinion any parent that allows their child to be in the entertainment industry without safeguards or serious restrictions is insane. It is a parent's responsibility to protect their children even when it makes the child mad because kids are unaware of the dangers in the world. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/21/24 Full Review Diane B ALL of this stuff was well-documented and known. Drake Bell gets a pass on his own inappropriate behavior. The BI reporter talks about others' reporting as if it's her own. Sad but meh. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/20/24 Full Review Maria J Heartbreaking and shocking documentary. Very courageous of all of the victims to share their horrific experiences. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/18/24 Full Review Megan e Really well-done and thoughtful docuseries on children acting and their vulnerabilities in a fiscally-driven, less-regulated system. Very careful of the victims and children associated. Definitely recommend! 5 stars Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/17/24 Full Review Parker S I think the idea of this show had a good intentions of showing the dark side of kids TV however it came off as whiny gripes of has-beens that wished they were someone else. Look, I'm not defending Schneider because I believe he is malevolent but when Quiet on Set tries to show he's evil they're inadvertently making him seem good. The way they show his villainy is by having either old stars that didn't make it or angry staff from ages ago try and say he's evil. It just isn't enough for a case to say this guy truly did anything evil and frankly tarnishes any ability in the future to show what he actually did. Brian Peck on the other hand also seems like a story thrown in there to slightly hint at the possibility that Dan Schneider could be doing evil acts but the whole show seems so blanketed with stories to try and make you think this is such an evil place that it actually achieves the opposite effect which is that people think the documentary is just trying to pull the wool over your eyes to try and make you believe in something. Again, I think this was a great idea but executed so poorly with horrible and shady visual/evidential practices that you can't help but question the integrity of some of the individuals. Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) Quiet on Set is compelling viewing for what it exposes, with clear and cohesive reporting, and what it tells us -- yet again -- about how power imbalances in Hollywood lead to horrifying exploitation. Rated: 4/5 Apr 4, 2024 Full Review Jack Seale Guardian You are forgiven at this point if your rage is freighted with fatigue. But there is necessary work still to be done. Rated: 4/5 Mar 25, 2024 Full Review Candice Frederick Huffington Post What lingers throughout the series, especially with Bell’s allegation having been reported before it even aired, are all the other stories that surround it. Mar 22, 2024 Full Review Jim Schembri jimschembri.com Explores in extensive, disturbing detail the abuses that took place – often infront of cameras – during the heyday of Nickelodeon, the one Hollywood studio to rival Disney’s dominance of childrens TV. Rated: 3.5/5 Apr 11, 2024 Full Review Stephanie Morgan Common Sense Media Despite its tough subject matter, the series is crucial for shedding light on systemic problems within the entertainment industry, emphasizing the urgent need for protective measures for child actors. Apr 3, 2024 Full Review Christopher Campbell Nonfics Those of us — hopefully all of us — who care about the safety of children are easily sold on what Quiet on the Set is doing as a platform for the survivors and a condemning of the offenders.
